What swimbaits and heads to use on an A-rig for Smallmouth and largemouth

Featured Replies

I'll be fishing texoma in a week and I was wondering what heads and swimbaits to use there.

Tons of different options out there. I pour my own but I have some from Strike King that are really nice too. If you can find some with a strong enough hook to hold a big fish, but light enough to straighten if they get snagged, that's ideal to me.

I pour my own heads.  I like to use 1/8 oz with a 3/0 hook.  Like stated strong enough to hold a good fish but light enough to bend when hung up.  I normally use flukes but sometimes paddle tails.

Admittedly not an A-Rig expert by any means - I use different heads - usually targeting Smallmouth.

For deeper applications I like the VMC Flat Shad Jig Head -

And for shallower deals I like the VMC Boxer Jig Head ~

Both feature a Premium 1X strong needle point hook and fit the swimbaits I use nicely.

Check out shanes baits. He makes 1/16th ounce heads and some of the lightest a-rigs out. Good if you don't have a dedicated big rod to throw them on.
