What's In Your......

First Aid Kit?

Aside from the basics, what items do you have in yours that isn't normally found in one.  Mine has a 30lb. 18in. wire leader, small magnifying glass, penlight flashlight, glucose packets, eyewash saline and hand warmers.

Note to mods: I wasn't sure which forum to post this. Move as you see fit.

This might sound wimpy but I actually keep band aids in mine because if I get a hook in my finger I don’t want to be touching my cork with a bloody finger. But I’m overprotective of my fishing stuff.:)

After fishing a pike tournament, my hands usually look like they’ve been in a blender. The gill rakers on them are deadly, never

ind the teeth. Usually have to repack the first aid kit after those tournaments.

Having the Training, Knowledge & Confidence to use it's contents effectively, may be as important as the kit itself.

Just put together a kit for the new boat.   Have a separate one for camping and backpacking.   It’s very similar to A-jays set up. Looking through his lists and beyond the basics what really stands out and should be added to your kit is a saftey blanket.   I have one as well in all my kits.   But the boat and backpacking kit got a bivy type saftey blanket.    I did add things like advil Tylenol burn cream.

I just put together a small one for my kayak. It could probably use a few more things but it's got:

Antiseptic

Bandages

Gauze

Medical Tape

Tweezers

a 4ft section of 65lb braid with a slip knot tied in it

Super Glue

Handwarmers

Bandages, burn and itch cream, skin safe superglue, and gauze. Honestly, I think that I've only used it once.

Dirt.  Because everybody knows real men just rub dirt on it and keep fishing.

Just a standard First aid kit for me.

Funny.  I am a veterinarian and I don't have one in my yak, either.  I carry iodine crub when fishing the gulf because of flesh eating bacteria.  I guess I should do better.

I only have 1 comprehensive first aid kit. I use it for all of my outdoor adventures, whether that's fishing, camping or bushcraft camping.

It had assorted bandaids (standard sizes, trauma, butterfly, suture strips which are a must!), nu-skin suture patches, medical grade "skin glue", antiseptics, iodine, topical numbing agent, itch cream, burn cream, aloe Vera, medical grade scalpel, suture needle, sterile gauze,  sturdy joint wrappings with clips, painkillers, lighters, wax, and 10 pounds braid.

I carry a handful of Band-Aids, some sterile gauze pads, a roll of sports tape, and a little airplane bottle of vodka.   I need to throw some emergency hook removal supplies in there but I have yet to get around to it.
