where do you buy most of your gear
its About a 60/40 split between my local shop and tw. My local shop offers a reward program. 50$ gets you a stamp. 10 stamps and you get 50$ store credit. I try to take advantage of that when I can.

Resources for a new bass fisherman in the Bay Area
We have some good options for bank fishing in our area. I would suggest spending some time at Anderson reservoir. It can be great for numbers. Woodchippers area is a good place to start. Lexington has been getting better. If your looking to get out on a boat los vaqueros and Chabot offer half off rentals Tuesday-Thursday. 50$ gets you a full day rental and that includes the entrance fees.

Resources for a new bass fisherman in the Bay Area
Check out coyote bait and tackle. The staff is very helpful. When I started out they gave me some great tips and helped me with making the right purchases for the area. Where have you been spending your time on the water at.

What's In Your......
Just put together a kit for the new boat. Have a separate one for camping and backpacking. It’s very similar to A-jays set up. Looking through his lists and beyond the basics what really stands out and should be added to your kit is a saftey blanket. I have one as well in all my kits. But the boat and backpacking kit got a bivy type saftey blanket. I did add things like advil Tylenol burn cream.

You know you are obsessed with fishing
When your kids have middle names like, largie, smallie, spot, June bug, and shad. When your delivery guy knows exactly where to hide the packages so your wife won’t find them when she gets home first.

Transom saver with center trailer light ?
Sweet rig. I am counting down the days to pick up mine too. If all goes well it will be ready next week. I purchased a motormate for mine. Haven’t used it yet. But I’ll report back once I have some time on the road with it.

Would you want MLF to come to your home lake or area?
The headache of trying to bring a boat reregistered our of state to California and launch in most of the waters would prevent most from trying to come here. So I wouldnt mind at all. Sounds like the trail tries very hard to stay under the radar until the show hits tv. Will it impact a fishery. Definitely. But will the good outweighed the bad?

Do you retie after every catch?
Slightly OCD? I frequently check line. But would never think to re-tie after every fish catch. Although if I was fishing flooded timber wrapped in barb wire with a substantial zebra mussel growth, or Diamond crusted rip rap I would probably re-tie after every catch.

Fast or X-Fast action jig rod?
Extra fast for rods 7 foot and under Fast for rods longer. But if I am throwing braid to leader fast no matter the length. I have a friend who only uses extra fast. He says a fast is to whippy for his liking. How are you fishing the jig. Dragging I prefer fast. More forgiving and I feel it’s easier for me to prevent getting snagged. If I am hopping or swimming the jig I like a extra fast. I feel like The extra fast action gives me more control over the jig. But it totally depends on your fishing style.

Catching winter bass during a warming trend
I fished Del Valle About a month ago. Took a cousin out that wanted to target trout. The water level is super low. Start in the narrows. I have always had luck with jigs and tubes and keitechs. Focus north of the first major cove and the narrow section between that and heron bay. I have a friend that has good success there in winter deep cranking and jigging spoons. If your banking fishing you’ll have to walk pretty far to get to good water. The bank beaters take up most of the shore during the weekend. I haven’t been back since so I don’t know the current water levels or how the fishing is. But unless they pumped a ton of water in from the delta it’s going to be pretty low. Watch for striper boils. A 20 pound striper was caught not to long ago. He was casting swimbait a into boils. Good luck and let us know how you did.

Favorite water you've fished.
Of my small sample size of waters I have fished I would be a tie between Shasta and Trinity lake in California.

ISO Best fluorocarbon??
Sunline Assassin. Price is right. Pretty good abrasion resistant and super slick. Line diameter is slightly larger than sniper and it is definitely more stretchy. I use it for my reaction baits and am very pleased.

What are your favorite rod brands?
I don’t think there is really a bad rod brand. They all serve a purpose within the given price range. My 5 year old fishes a ugly stick and she can catch them. I think a better question would be what is the best rod within a given price range. It’s so hard to choose. So many great options. But if I had to give my favorite 3. St. Croix. G. Loomis. Megabass. I did just buy a Phenix feather that I am really impressed with.

BPS stores
Even if you make one purchase on amazon prime a month it pretty much pays for itself. 2 day shipping can be expensive. It’s included with prime. Sometimes they have same or next day shipping. You also get access to the music and video. For me it’s a no brainer. 12$ a month. But I rarely purchase fishing related stuff from amazon. I have a kid in college. I can buy her pretty much anything as well as textbooks and have it shipped to the school.

Fishing fathers
My 3 kids 18,10,5, enjoy fishing. Raising them in a city we try to get them “unplugged” as much as possible. Camping, hiking, fishing is all in the rotation. The older ones are hit or miss with fishing. Some days they love it. Others not so much. My 5 year old girl absolutely loves it. She can do a 4-5 hour bank fishing trip and complain about having to leave. She is starting to get comfortable with casting. But she has no problem reeling in fish. Her favorite lure is the fake worm thing(her name for a stick bait). Every fish she catches she wants to hold and put back in the water. It’s pretty cool. Biggest advice is to make it fun, don’t force it on them, and leave when they are ready to leave. I started exposing them to outdoor activities young.

Can you swim
I vividly remember mom taking me to swim lessons as a kid. Grade school age until middle school. Every summer. By fifth grade I was taking lessons with teenagers. One of the many great skills my mom forced me to learn. Swam in high school. Partly because I was pretty good. Mostly to get the attention of a girl. I am lucky enough to have a pool close by to still swim laps in. All 3 of my kids, youngest is 5 oldest is 18, all have taken lessons and can swim like fish. But even though we can all swim well we still use life jackets when the situation calls for it. Water is not forgiving and anything can happen in a blink of an eye.
