Howdy from Texas!

 

I’m returning to bass fishing after 20+ years away from fishing in general. I remember days long past fishing with my dad and grandad or the ponds on my uncles property and catching all kinds of mostly large mouth bass. Only problems now... they are all gone.

 

Now I’ll mostly fish with my father in law on Cedar Creek Lake in Texas or from the bank at a lake near Fort Worth. 

 

Currently I have an Abu Garcia Revo SX 6.4 paired with a 7’1” Cabela’s Med-Heavy fast action Tournament ZX rod and an Abu Garcia ProMax 7.1 on a 7’ Berkley Cherrywood HD Med-Heavy fast action rod.   I’m considering taking the promax setup back to Wal-Mart and getting a better reel and rod more set up for flipping. Plus the Revo is left handed and I actually prefer casting right and reeling left. Any advice is appreciated.

Advice from Lake Athens, just to the south and east of Cedar Creek Lake a bit.  If you haven't fished for 20 or so years, the advancements in tackle and equipment will amaze you. So will the prices and what the hobby costs these days if you, yourself, get hooked! Set a budget.

 

For bank fishing, head down to Squaw Creek from around October until around the end of April or so each year. It is a power plant lake and great for fishing cooler months from the banks. 

 

For Cedar Creek, if you like to fish for White Bass, see if you can find or hook up with Dennis Christian, one of the very best offshore sand bass anglers. Watch his video I think shot on Cedar Creek, his home lake.

 

Equipment. For from the bank, get a set up for making modest casts with a T-Rig. It'll be your most productive presentation for bass from most banks, most of the time.
