First Time On Pickwick

I am down at Pickwick Lake this week for a college tournament, today was our first practice day. A big cold front moved in and the winds were pretty extreme, so we didn't expect much, but my partner and I had a phenomenal day! We caught a decent number of fish and a handful of them were big (maybe not for here, but for us WV boys). Best 5 were in the ballpark of 21lbs! My partner caught his PB smallmouth today at 5.08lbs, it was an absolute freak of a fish and the biggest I have ever seen. We are facing some challenging conditions and will probably have to do a good bit of adjusting to stay on fish, but that is the name of the game!

Awesome stuff man! Congrats to your buddy on that giant smallie! Save a couple of those 5lbers for the tournament.

I fished an ABA National Championship on Pickwick and made the mistake of focusing too intently on Smallmouth, but it Looks like you guys are on the right mix of fish !

I just got done with a High school fishing tournament there launching from JP Coleman state park. We were on them but they were all short striking our baits. We could get them all the way up to the boat and they would just let go. I guess they were just hanging on to their tails. Our biggest ( 9 pounds) came from a shallow lay down. That's where the quality was in the morning. The water was murky and they were shallow warming up. We were catching most fish on t rigged lizards watermelon red and spinner baits. We got top 15 outta 100.  Good luck out there bro.

Oh man, I'm fishing for a few down there in a couple weeks and I'm hyper excited!

Good Luck, The wind is very bad. When I was motoring around looking for some areas in yellow creek, I had white caps coming on the deck. My boat would nose dive into the waves. I suggest life jackets at ALL times..
