Where To Buy Lures

Featured Replies

Hi, All:

I imagine to y'all this is a pretty simple question, but for a guy who's only been fishing for 9 months, it's not so simple...

Where is the best place to buy lures online? Cabella's, Bass Pro, Amazon? I just got a popup from "lightinthebox.com", and the prices look FAB! But I've never heard of them before.

Thanks

The places you listed, when there is a sale going (or at least the stuff you want is on sale). For bass pro and cabelas it's free shipping for orders over 50, so you're better off doing that rather than waste money on shipping.  Academy sports, tacklewarehouse, tackle trap, dick's when there is a sale and you can use a 10 off 50 coupon, etc.

Ebay is a good place too - btw those deals at lightinthebox.com  look good but they're also lower quality lures.  Might not be bad for starting out with but you'll realize over time that they're not worth it.  The color selection is usually not the best for those either.

Darn. I was afraid of that. I naively hoped that one place would be the absolute best place to go, say, 90% of the time. I hate shopping around. Oh well.

Thanks

Tacklewarehouse is a good place to start for shopping online, but keep an eye on sales at other stores and on Ebay from reputable sellers, and don't forget about local tackle shops if you have any near you.

I always like to support my local family owned shops. We have only 1 in our town and unfortunately their inventory is low and limited in some items. I turn to Tacklewarehouse 99.9% of the time as I'm in California. Overnight shipping if you get your orders in by 12pm and order over $50. It's terrible as the internet is everywhere and I know I can have my stuff by the next day. Packages sometimes arrive 2-3 times a week!

Also, try to never buy stuff at full price.  Wait until the lure you want is 15% or so off and then buy in bulk to stock up. Try to never pay for shipping, through either promo codes or ordering over 50 bucks which a lot of places ship for free after a certain amount.  Also find out when some places do free shipping with no minimum order so you can order what you want without having to worry about spending a certain amount.  Patience is key with all this... Don't go splurging and stock up unless you know you can't really get a much better deal, otherwise you might regret it later if and when you do see a better price.

Tackle warehouse or your local Walmart is a good place to start.

Tackle Warehouse has, by far, the best selection of baits, rods, etc.

Yes sir. Their delivery times are pretty consistent as well. If I have a big enough order, just go home a little early and my packages are soon to come.

I buy most of mine from TW or Ebay. TW is nice for bigger orders, Ebay is better for buying a couple things or hard to find baits.

Soft plastics like Zoom Yamamoto or Berkley I always go to Walmart.  They generally beat everyone else's pricing especially after shipping costs are included.  I find if TW is having a sale I always spend over $50 to get free shipping, but then end up spending $50 when I didn't necessarily mean to spend that much.  Bass pro has good pricing on their house brands too.
