Who has experience flying with a rod recently?
Thanks for the responses. I checked with the airlines but I do know people who have had different experiences a year or so ago. I had to check my rods years ago and just kept doing it since, and always forget to ask the ticket and boarding agents. Just trying to prevent being that guy with oversized golf bag and rod tubes fumbling through the airport.

Who has experience flying with a rod recently?
I haven't flown with a travel rod in years. Are any travel rods still allowed as a carry on? I've checked and have heard different experiences. I'm going on a golf vacation and would like to bring a decent travel rod that optimally I could take on the plane with me as a carry on. Looking at the Fenwick 4 piece.

Who owns the Shimano Chonarch 7:1:1?
It's a great reel. I have a few and Met's, Curado K's and DC's. The Chronarch is probably my overall favorite. Shapewise, performance especially with light baits. Winter is coming and the material does not transfer cold to the hands like a metal reel does. You will love that reel.

KVD moving to Lew's
I don't know how this thread evolved into golf equipment, but just to add Nike contracted Bridgestone to manufacture their balls so they were never into manufacturing much of their golf equipment. There are many more examples of this across life. There are people who have made very good money negotiating licensing deals similar to this.

New Metanium/Curado 70
I wouldn't bet against them doing it. Only thing is they will update the Chronarch as well and jack the price of it too. They took a bunch of the tech from higher end spinning reels and put it in the stradic and bumped the price $30. I'm kind of excited to see what they do with the new releases as the last few years have been very well received.

Question...Which normal priced setup casts farther ? Spin or bait ?
Ha I'm right with you on this one. Few years ago I finally broke down and bought new baitcasters to replace my round reels. Took them out to the backyard and casted a 1/2oz weight and was amazed at the distance. I was nearly reaching the edge of my lawn about 50 yards. After a few casts I grabbed the old Ugly stick combo with the Shakespeare reel I picked up on clearance ten years ago. First cast was in the trees well beyond the bait casters.

Weightless fluke setup?
I didn't even know they made Flukes until last year, I grabbed a pack on TW because I was curious. I've been throwing the superflukes with both spinning and baitcaster setups for years. First time I tried a regular fluke on a baitcasting setup...well let's say god bless anyone who can do that effectively. They are about half the weight of the superfluke and double the trouble with a casting reel in my hands.

SLX DC!?
Agreed. The MGL is available in Japan only, same as they did with the Casitas. I think with all the fancy upgrades and gimmicks in reel technology in the last 10 years the MGL spool is probably the biggest breakthrough. I'm a cheap old guy and used my round reels for probably too long until I picked up a friends Chronarch MGL. Fast forward 3 years and I have 2 of them and 2 Met's. If they ever come out with a Curado 70 MGL I'll dust off my wallet and grab a few. Since the Curado DC is being discussed, anyone else more impressed with how solid it reels over how it casts? I've realized there is almost no distance gained vs. my MGL's but darn it if it isn't one of the most solid and smooth feeling reels I've ever used. Lastly a dumb question. What is the difference between the SLX and the SLX XT?

Any info on a new shimano Stradic CI4?
Yeah that video is the reason I ask about the CI4 version. I absolutely love TackleAdvisors, Scooby is unbelievable at making videos. I'm guessing if they've brought some of the tech from the higher end models to the regular Stradic they will do the same with the CI4 version. The reason I'm curious is I love the 2016 and can't wait to see this years improvements.

Any info on a new shimano Stradic CI4?
I see they released a new stradic Fl and it's been 3 years since the last CI4 version. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a new version of the CI4, since it seems Shimano has been releasing new models every 3 years consistently. I have the 2016 3000 CI4 and love it. Have been looking at picking up a 1000 and am going to wait for a new model. I'll either be blown away as I was with the last version, or scoop up one of the older models once they drop in price.

Update on my SLX Purchase
Thanks sounds interesting. I certainly don't need anymore reels than I own now. So I'll probably purchase this thing anyway.

Shimano Curado DC - Birdsnest Mid-Cast
I love my DC but it also doesn't throw the lighter stuff as well as the 1/4oz and above. A weightless fluke is on the low end for this reel IMO. I agree the line you are using is probably the culprit, but I can't imagine no matter the line you getting the maximum out of that reel with such a light bait.

Update on my SLX Purchase
How does it feel in the hand size wise, and what Shimano reel would you say it's closest to regarding how it feels in the hand?
-
Probably a rookie question...
Are you using braid?

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
My local Walmart is clueless regarding fishing gear. I always check the clearance rack and scored a bunch of kalins grubs for 75 cents each. I've never even seen them for sale there so I'm guessing they went straight to the clearance rack. Since I grabbed all 4 bags I went to pick up a few Bitsy bug jig heads. Here's where it gets out of control. They were 25 cents a piece. Bought all 10 of them and going back tomorrow to see if they have more in stock. $5.50 for 40 grubs and 10 jigs. I'm set till next decade.
