Hi all,

Can anyone recommend anything to make the carpet in trailer bunks more slicker? To keep my boat centered on the trailer when loading I can't have the bunks too far in the water, so winching it up takes some effort. Also the hull on my Lund is all painted and I'm worried about wearing thru the paint.

 I already dunk the trailer in water and pull it up some, so the bunks are wet, but it doesn't help much. 

I heard about a product called liquid roller. Anyone try that?

Liquid graphite maybe?

Teflon based products were used in the past, but have not heard of anything lately.

This. Spray teflon works great. Just spray it on with the bunks and let it dry for a few minutes. One spraying lasts a long time.

 

Do not unhook the bow strap until its in the water. You can easily drop your boat on the ground.

They make bunk slicks you can screw onto your existing bunks, or look into Ultimate Bunk Boards. I had them on my previous aluminum boat, I have them on my johnboat trailer, and when it comes time to replace my bass boat's boards, I'll put them on there as well. 

I use paraffin wax on mine. Works well.

This^^ I have used them as well and love them. Just don't completely undo your bow straps backing down the ramp!

After you hook your boat up to the winch and tighten it, you could back the trailer a little bit before cinching everything up.

thanks for the response everyone. I think I'll start simple and try some spray Teflon.

When recovering your rig, back your trailer "Too Far" at first  - to wet your bunks. 

Then pull back up the ramp to the "correct depth" to load.

Your rig will load easier.

BeWARE of making them too slick.  What makes your boat slide easily onto your trailer can also make it slide off too easily.  My friend once had to back his trailer/boat down WAY TOO FAST as he saw the boat was sliding off rapidly.  Luckily he made it.  It would not have been pretty.  A-Jay's suggestion is probably the safest/soundest way.  Or, perhaps, apply "something" to the back half of the bunk boards but not the front half. Too much of a good thing can be a very bad thing.

This.  There's a sweet spot that changes on different ramps.  It's just before the stern floats off the trailer.  Note where the water line is, and pull up 6-10" from that spot when retrieving.  See how that works centering the boat on the trailer.

I put UHMW strips on my bunks instead of carpet. Works great.
