10 to 12 lb Yo-zuri hybrid for crankbaits. Yes or no and why or why not?

I used it and caught fish, but compared to braid it was very difficult to tell what the bait was doing. I didn't feel it was the most sensitive line out there, but I have been spoiled by braid for years now. This summer it will be on my deep diver setup to see if I get more depth with it over the 50 lb braid I normally throw.

Why not 6 or 8lb? Their diameter and strength are a bit higher than other lines, so the 6 is actually like 11, but that's nothing. The 10 and 12 are great lines for tossing spinnerbaits, swim jigs, etc.

That's one of the best aspects of the line. I've tried anywhere between 4 and 20. I wish they made 1-2# for ice fishing.

I've used it for cranking for a while now. I like it, it's tough, cheap, casts fairly well, and is more sensitive than mono and has less stretch.

I use braid to a Hybrid leader on my crankbait setup and it's excellent.  Generally, I'm using a 12# Hybrid leader for fishing boulder and log strewn rivers and it's d**n near indestructible. I cannot think of a better line for slamming a bait into rocks.

Cheap and tough with some stretch, pretty much everything I'm looking for in a cranking line.

You tend to go on the light side, where I tend to go on the heavy side. It may be that I just fish from the shore on many different lakes and sometimes will get caught in weeds.

 

I use 15lb fluorocarbon for crankbaits and spinnerbaits, and currently 40lb braid (with leader as appropriate) on the rod I use for soft plastics, jigs and frogs, although that will be 17 or 20lb fluorocarbon once I get a heavy rod for frogs.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is about all I use for crankbait fishing anymore.  Extremely tough and the least amount of stretch of any non-braid line.

The good news is the knot strength on yhb is much higher so you can use lighter line and get the same strength.

True. I'm actually more worried about abrasion against rocks in some places I fish too.

I agree 100%. only problem is it's gotten hard to buy locally. Walmart and Dick's used to carry it, not any longer (in my area)

Yes sir! I use it for a lot more than just crankin', but its perfect for that.

I haven't used much YHB to be honest. I just got some YHB line to replace some 15lb Fluoroclear I put on my son's reel, and we had issues with memory forming in very weird ways that caused issues with it. So far with the YHB, it's been good.

The best I have found for the entire range of crank baits for non braid is 8lb CXX. It has 20lb break strength and is the most abrasion resistant line out there.

Its great stuff. Still working on my 1lb spool of 12lb smoke I got for crazy cheap.  I've hauled in 40+" musky on a glass cranking rod and countless amounts of LMB/SMB on various setups.  If you don't already have KVD conditioner, get some. Spray on a few hours or the night before and you'll be amazed at the results.
