Need advice on this jon boat please..

I have an opportunity to buy this boat for $350.  It is 14' and 53" at the widest point.  I measured from rail to rail not the floor.  The floor is 36".

It comes with a trailer that is in good condition.  I can get the boat with an 8hp Yamaha in (supposedly) excellent running condition for an additional $400.  and that includes a trolling motor but I don't know what kind or size t/m.  I don't really need the t/m. I have 2 new ones already.

Anyways, what do you think.  Good price?  Is boat modifiable for a platform?  And possible floor deck?

O ya, I would pick that up for $350, especially with the trailer. Definatley able to build a deck with the low benches too.

Yea buddy   :)

Hey Bassn,

I've got a 1436 Jon boat that looks very similar. It's a great boat when it's just me fishing, but a 36" wide boat gets pretty tippy with a partner...especially a big, clumsy partner. I do love my boat, but if I had it to do over again, I would probably wait for a 1442 or wider.

Thank you for the advice.  You are just what I was looking for.  Your boat seems to be the same size and if you say it's tippy then I believe ya. I'm 6'2, 210 and dad is the same.  I'm in no hurry since I have a nice boat already.  I just need another for "T/M lakes only"   Thanks again.

good boat, large and wide seats means less structure/framing = less weight. Good looking boat for a mod. Take the boat and trailer, leave the motor, get one that u know where and how its been used, no point in wasting $400 on a junk motor when that $400 could get u a couple new Abu's   :) If u get to see the motor and determine its good then take it

A deal?  How about a STEAL!!!  BUY IT or I will!!!

Definitely can take any combination of top decks or floor decks.

A real steal dude, hop on that!!

That is a fair deal, but wider is better.

I would say deal! If it was up to me I would jump on it! I got my 12' v hull jon boat for $375 w/o a trailer, so if I were you I'd say deal!

Yep killer deal, all looks good-trailer too.

I picked up a 1436 w/trailer and a 6hp(runs good) for $600

For extra $400 on the motor-I'd leave it, I don't plan on putting the 6hp back on mine, its not realalistic around here for a gas jon.

For the price that could let you make some money off it too, you can't buy a 12 foot jon with trailer around here under $1000, so if you come across one under its a deal :) if its a 14ft or 16ft-then better deal :)

the boat look's in real good condition for $350.  Depending on how big you are into fishing tho it may be worth just taking your time and going for a bigger used boat, like around 17 or 18 feet console steering, all that good stuff.  If you take your time (I spent about 6 month's waiting for a good deal to come along) then you will be suprised how much you can get for such little money.

That's "gospel" right there.

I thought I had a deal when I found this for $500

But I turned it into this

B-Blvd- sorry we keep missing each other, I'm home all day today if you'd like to try again :)

Looks nice, I'd buy it for that price.

I"d buy that in a heartbeat! I paid more than that for my 12 foot with trailer.

By the way, I am 6' 1" 260 lbs and my 12 foot is not at all tippy. You should not have any problem with this boat.

Exactly :)

What year is the motor? I think the boat and trailer is a good deal, but I would probably leave the motor alone.

Thank you for all the replys.  You guys are great.  I skipped on the boat but at times still kick myself in the arse for doing so.  I have a 19' Bass Tracker which is my main boat.  There are a few rather large T/M only lakes in and around my neighborhood that I want to fish.  I put my Tracker in my neighborhood Lake but they try and give me grief about the motor, which I tilt out of the water.  I'm just tired of the complaints so I thought I'd go with a Jon.  I have a 10' but it's uncomfortable.  I'm 6'2 225 and my dad is 6'2 210.  I figured I'd wait and look for a little wider boat because he and I are about as clumsy as a one legged elephant, although I think that boat would been suitable, I just don't want to waste money on an unsure thing like I did on the 10'er.  Anyways, thanks for all the input.  I'll find one again and reach out for yalls help.

And LBH,  It's ok.  I know you tried getting back to me.  We just kept missing each other.  Thanks..Doug...

Bass'n, one solution to people giving you grief about your big motor on a TM only lake is to remove the prop from the big motor.

Just a thought.
