Best lures to use to catch gar

I’m going to go fish the hocking river in Ohio Friday and I always see a bunch of gar and want to try and catch one what’s the best lures to use for them?

I haven't ever done it. But I've watched YouTube videos. I think The guy just took a normal hook and "nose" hooks it. Then fishes it like a jerkbait

yup the frayed rope works very well.  Just gott let them chew on it and they ge their teeth tangled and you bring them in, just make sure you have some scissors or something to cut it out of their teeth when you land them.

I have a spot that's loaded with huge longnose gar that rarely bite and might consider using this technique. I usually use poppers,jerkbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, and other bass lures to catch gar.
