Craws baits as topwater

Featured Replies

I was looking at getting some top water toads the other day and as I was looking at them their legs reminded me of craw style baits. So I got to thinking that I could just try and craw bait and see if I could get a similar action. Has anyone used craw style baits or any other type of soft plastic as a topwater bait? I am a bank fisherman and don't want to carry around a ton of tackle.

Zoom's Ultravibe Speed Craw, 1/8 oz bullet weight

Rage Tail's Lobster no weight necessary

I've done it too.  Fishing it weightless T-rigged and cruising it over the top of weeds.

I often use a Ragetail Spacemonkey like a toad.  Think of it as a finesse toad.  Works great.

Yep. I used to use the Powerbait Beast, which was sort of a craw shaped creature bait.  It worked on top.  I have some small Netbait craws meant to be trailers that are sort of like a downsized buzz toad.

I do it pretty often.  I also use a Keitech Noisy Flapper as a punch bait.

I've done it with the 1/4oz bullet weight Tx rigged.  I was fishing this small cove, made a bad cast.  Was reeling it back as fast as I could along to surface to make another cast, caught a fish.  Ended up catching about 8 fish from that spot doing that, discovered it all by accident of course.

I also do this regularly.  I like Yum's mighty craw and Christie Craw for this, but the paca craw and others work great for me, too.

Sometimes weightless, sometimes with a keel weighted swimbait hook.

The first time I buzzed a piece of plastic on top was with the old Ditto Gator   Tail  worms . Also have used grubs , lizards and craws .  Short arm Colorado bladed spinnerbaits can also do it , like the old Bass Buster  Scorpion . The spinnerbaits sound cool making a burbling sound but difficult to keep the cadence going during the entire retrieve .

This is me dragging a lightly weighted Ragetail Craw just fast enough along the surface to keep it above the weeds.

BioSpawn advertises their Vile Craw to be used as a craw, trailer, or topwater bait.

Without doubt....the Yum Christie Craw on a 3/0 hook with a 3/16oz bullet sinker pegged. I've caught fish throughout the entire water column consistently with the Yum Christie Craw and will even venture out to say it's the most versatile plastic in my arsenal.
