Can someone recommend a good coupler trailer and hitch lock?

Featured Replies

Looking for a way to secure my trailer while not hooked up to my truck as well as when hooked up at the boat ramp. Tried master lock brand and haven’t gotten 2 weeks out of the trailer one and the key is having to be forced in to unlock it.

A little graphite based lock lube will probably make the one you have work just fine.

If you have a swing tongue just pull the lock pin & insert a large lock thru the lock pin hole after swinging the tongue to the side.

I use a standard master padlock on my trailer and have not had any problems with it. A guy I know works for a locksmith company and that is what he recommended to use instead of a specialty trailer lock.

Reese Professional Coupler Lock

Lost the key one time, tried cut it with a acetylene torch, & had to literally melt it off.

A good whack with a 5 pound sledge will break any lock made of hardened steel.

Didn't break that one ?

One you don't want is a regular pad lock, a 32 oz framing hammer will break any pad lock. Done it many times working construction & someone loses the key to the gang box!

Unfortunately a battery powered angle grinder will make most locks ineffective if the thief really wants it. Best we can do is make it difficult as possible

When the boat is parked at the house I use a coupler lock, I fold the trailer tongue and wrap a fat chain and Masterlock around the trailer frame and tongue, then I have a 6 foot Masterlock cable and Masterlock running thru one of the wheels around the leaf spring and then thru the wheel again.  Me paranoid... Nah.

Anywho I use these,

When my boat is parked at the house I keep it in a large wooden box called a garage.

I see right now you don't have enough projects.  I couldn't get an inflatable in mine.

I keep mine in the garage too. I just wish I had a garage the size of yours.

I wish mine fit in the garage.

I use Trimax stainless steel receiver and coupler locks. My last stainless steel receiver lock froze up on me and had to be broken off with a 45 ounce deadblow hammer, so I've been spraying WD40 into the Trimax locks on a regular basis. So far, so good.

I bought the locks separately through Amazon, so they're not keyed-alike. However, Trimax offers keyed-alike coupler and receiver lock sets. Here's a link to the product page on the Trimax website:
