GLX vs IMX

Featured Replies

So as a member of Shimano's varsity program, I can get rods half off. They do this to put the stuff within high school angler's reach. My only proplem is that a $200 GLX is still a big reach, considering I work part time at minimum wage. Can someone tell me what their opinions are of each rod? I know I will be told to get whatever I can afford, but I'd like to know if it would be worth it to spend the extra $40. I also know that I am no pro fisherman and that there isn't any point to buying expensive things at my age, but I work pretty hard and would like to splurge myself. Thanks.

Not sponsored. Shimano owns G Loomis so they also give discounts on them, Jackall, and PowerPro

I get the same deal through my highschool and own a GLX 852S JWR. Awesome rod, definitely worth the money. I've also fished with other models in both the GLX and IMX Pro lineup and if you're buying a rod to fish bottom contact baits, the GLX is definitely worth it. Plus, speaking for myself, us kids probably won't get the opportunity for a while after highschool to buy that kind of gear. And, they have a lifetime warranty.

I have e6x's through the conquest.

Save your pennies and reach for the the GLX. For some applications I like it better than the Conquest    I am also reaching for the MBR over the JWR a lot!

I always say to buy the best rod you can afford. If the glx is in reach, go for it. It’s better to get the top dollar rod sooner than later, otherwise you’ll find yourself creeping up the ladder like I did and I would have saved more money if I went straight to the top.

A $200 GLX is worth saving up for.  Hell, a $200 GLX might be worth gping back to highschool for.

Definitely!  Except I would like to not be so shy the next time around.  :D

Well worth the additional $40.

Yes, do it. I'm a little envious, lol.

If it will only cost you another $40 to get a GLX, that's a no brainer. I have used both and the GLX is a lot lighter and more sensitive than the IMX. Buy once, cry once

I used to own  GLX and since I couldn't feel the, back then, 100 bux difference to my IMXs I ended up selling it to a friend, so ... you may not always feel the difference.

If I were you, I would just get the GLX since it will be worth it.

I tend to buy budget rods until I got too many of those. Then I started a "sell off" to get few rods - NRX Models.

It worked out well for me.
