What type of presentation do you recommend?

Featured Replies

We have had a ton of the rain the last few days in Missouri but it is coming to an end tomorrow. All bodies of water are really up and over the normal banks. I have to kill a few hours tomorrow afternoon and will do a little fishing. Normally I do not want to do a lot of fishing when conditions are a bit "out of whack" but in conditions like this what lure and presentation should I go for if I'm after largemouth bass?

I am heading to a reservoir south of Kansas City tomorrow.

I suspect the water will be high and cloudy. The bass will probably be shallow.

I plan on throwing a whopper plopper, squarebill, and a chatterbait, around shallow cover.

if that does not work, I am going to pitch creature baits and Jigs into any new flooded brush and weeds.

I'd be beating the bank with chartreuse/black back square bill.

I actually really like high-water on my own local rivers -- both largemouth and smallmouth will get right up in flooded bushes and trees, which you can pick apart with the ol' 1-2 punch:  Cast and retrieve a buzzbait or spinnerbait as close to newly-flooded cover as possible, from a few different angles. Then flip a jig or t-rig a few times to some likely spots before moving on.

Find where water is running into the lake whether it be streams, runoffs or drainage pipes. I’d have something fast and slow to throw

A black and blue bladed jig or a white spinnerbait with 1 orange and 1 hammered copper Colorado blades are 2 of my favorite baits for high, dirty water. I always have a jig tied on to flip into the newly flooded cover too.

high and cloudy water screams shallow and tight to cover for me during the peak day time. i’d be flipping/pitching jigs with craw trailers into any flooded cover I could find.

A 1/2 oz. spinnerbait, chart./white skirt, single Colorado blade.
