I prefer flouro because I can feel what the blades are doing all the time. I know if the blades are ticking rocks, snagging weeds, getting bumped by fish, etc.

You won't feel any noticeable difference using moving baits on a decent rod.

Ever broken one off on that? I decided to go with 15 lb. mono today but I'm wondering how strong 10lb. is.

No. In fact I caught my biggest pike (44") ever on 10#xl....

I agree. I use 12 pound test big mono for most of my spinnerbait fishing and do well.

 I tried various brands of flourocarbon for spinnerbait fishing and I was not impressed. Flourocarbon seems to break easier than big game mono. I will stick to big game mono when it comes to spinnerbait fishing.

1) I have used 12lb Berkley Big Game for spinnerbaits in open water and light cover and only lost one (it snagged between two rocks - there was no getting that one back). I'd think 10lb line might be usable, but is far from ideal especially with Vanish. I personally like 15lbs for fishing spinnerbaits in pretty much all conditions unless I'm fishing in some really heavy weeds, at which point I'd use 17lbs line. I have had great luck with Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon in 15# for spinnerbaits myself.

 

2) There is no harm in experimenting with different blades. Different blades work in different conditions and different lakes.

I'll take the the 15 lb BG and lay the points. You are comparing a line with some of the highest shock and knot strength to one with the worst. Even 10 lb BG to 10 lb Vanish wouldn't be a fair fight.

Just wondering, how long ago was the last time you used a spool of vanish? Almost everybody that's used it says it's awful but I strength tested mine and it seemed at least as strong as my Stren flourocarbon. It's been pretty good so far. That makes me wonder if they just recently started using a new blend to make the line.

I decided to go with the mono...

I throw my spinnerbaits on a 6'6 MH/F in a 6.8/1 with 15lb P-Line. It's one of my confidence baits. I love throwing around shallow cover, along weed edges, and over grass flats. For clear water, I primarily throw white or glimmering blue/silver with silver willow blades in daylight conditions and black with colorado blade at night. If the water has a slight stain to it I will throw a touch of chartreuse with gold blades. The gold seem to flash a little better in stained/dirty water.
