Shimano SLX and Revo X

Featured Replies

I tried to get some research on these Reel.. I love Abu Garcia, but this new Shimano looks very good. The Reel wars isn't what i'm after. I just want good advie on both. What Reel would you buy and why..

Daiwa Fuego CT. Beats both, and can be had for less than $60!

The reel looks nice.. I have one daiwa reel. It's $180 version of the T-wing system. Now that's a great Reel. Let me ask this, do you buy nothing but Daiwa Reels?

Nope, I'm a Daiwa and shimano guy, I do have some abus too but only round reels. I have the same Tws reel you're talking about. And the Fuego is very similar, its essentially the same reel without the Tws. I also have the Shimano Slx and the fuego outcasts it with every bait I've tried.

Yeah, that's what i thought.. I'm an Abu Garcia guy. I have 2 Revos, but i just can not afford the high prices. I don't fish as much as i used too. That Daiwa reel looked pretty good.

It definitely is, and cannot be beat at $60!

This one is $65, but with one of their 20% off coupons it'll be $52!

If you dont like Ebay you can buy it on Amazon for $63.

Personally I do not find the fuego to be anything amazing.  My *** and Curado blow it out of the water in smoothness.

Also 3 times the price. But I have also fished the curado and wasnt blown away with it at all. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I'll take performance over smoothness any day.

I've never handled the SLX so I can't tell ya about it. However I used to have a Revo X. The best way I can describe it is that its a Gen 3 Revo S with magnetic brakes. I upgraded it to a Revo SX because I love the dual brakes.

I will take comfortable to palm over price and smoothness any day. I know a lot of you want best bang for your buck but sometime comfortable to palm is to be considered as well. If the reel is for moving bait, I don’t mine much but for general purposes especially bottom contact, I want something that comfortable to palm and can hold at 45 degree for a long time.

with that said here what I bought.

Compare to Tatula 100

Compare to Fuego CT

Compare to Scorpion 70, and I have 4 of 70s series.

In the end you'll be happiest either the fuego or slx. I feel that the daiwa performs better,  but the slx is more comfortable to palm.

Although I want to just say Daiwa Fuego CT, because it is 60 bucks and there probably won't be a reel at that price point in the future with that amount of performance...

The Shimano SLX is going to blow the Revo X out the water, in my opinion.  It's hard to compete with the quality of a Shimano reel.

Thanks for the advice.. Everyone has their own likes towards a certain brand. I can 110% understand that. Did some internet searching and what if, i can get a Revo STX $125 Brand New.. I'm an abu Garcia fan, but have finished with Shimano in the past. It'll be very tough to turn that deal down.

I'm partial to Abu although I have Okuma, Daiwa, Quantum, Ardent, Pflueger, etc (you get the point). But the Gen 4 Revos are the most under rated reel on the market. Everyone is turned off because its a "Cookie Cutter" reel but they are great reels. The gen 3 turned a lot of people away but these gen 4s are outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another STX especially at $125. I got some flack here when the gen 4s were announced because I was going to buy a Tatula and turned it down to buy a SX for $80.

Before falling in love with Magforce-Z braking, I owned an Abu Garcia Blackmax and a Promax.  I didn't have a problem with either reel and they both did well.

My Fuegos are the most expensive, advanced caster I've owned, but I'm sure if I had an Abu Garcia Revo SX in my hand I would probably be pretty happy with it!  I'm just quickly becoming a Daiwa fanboy.

Academy has the Revo X and AllStar Nano rod combo for $119.

You can get the SLX on eBay/amazon for $80. That’s something to consider.

I have never handled a Fuego but I do have a couple Tat Ct and Tat SV. Very nice reels and now that I understand the braking on them I love them. However I do don't see much of a difference between my Tat Ct and Gen 4 Sx. Both are light, cast the same distance, easy to maintain, fits great in my hand. I would go out and replace any Tats with Revos but I also would replace any of my Revos with Tats.

If you've used a Tatula CT, you've used a Fuego CT.  I'm of the opinion that the T-Wing doesn't add much distance, and they're on the exact same platform.

If you're bumping up to the $125 range, you can spend less and grab a Citica. Hard to beat.

You can get the Daiwa Tatula 100 for $80 with a twenty percent off code on Ebay

If you’re looking at amazon, which had the gen 4 stx in 6.x:1 ratio for $125, I’ve noticed the gen 4’s prices less than the gen 3’s. Not sure why. I got lucky and looked at just the right time and found the gen4 sx in 7.3:1 for $44. About 20 minutes after I ordered it, it went up to $120. Keep an eye on amazon regularly if you’re not in a hurry to buy and you might find a killer deal.
