reel grease/oil

Featured Replies

looking for some reccomendations from you guys on what kind of reel grease/oil you use

Yamaha blue marine (Yamalube) grease for gears and other areas with metal to metal contact.  A 12oz tube runs ~$10 +/- a buck or two.  For bearings and level winds, I like TSI 321, and for IAR bearings, Reel X.

Shimano drag grease and shimano oil.  I also have a kit from Ardent.  I have grown to like the Reel Butter for the main gear.  I also try to use the oil that comes with the reel (Daiwa and Abu Garcia).  I am not a fan of Quantum's Hot Sauce.

Cals grease. ReelX. But I am now trying CorrosionX gun oil. It’s cheaper and I use a lot of oil.

Daiwa blue grease on gears. TSI 321 on bearings.

ZPI F-Zero Reel Oil

Shimano Reel Grease

Cal's Grease

Cheap stuff from Walmart. Ozark Trail I think. $7 for both. Small bottles.

The oil seems rather oily while the grease feels - greasy. ;)

Everyone who has gotten into cleaning their own reels has a favorite for oils and grease.

Mine is: Yellow Rocket Fuel on SS spool bearings and handle bearings

            ReelX on the worm gear

Shimano ACE2 (or Cal's) drag grease on drags and gears (I have also used Super Lube and Yamaha Blue Marine on gears in the past)

Pinion, drive shaft and Xship bearings dipped in TSI301
