Heddon Torpedo

Recommended Posts

So I picked up a few torpedos over the weekend and got to wondering. Which one has produced the best results for you? I have a few tinys and bought a teensy and 3 magnums. I have been told the frog ones are best. I haven't had a chance to fish them yet and hope to be able to snag a few when I do.

Can’t explain why but the Tiny has always worked best for me.

They will all catch fish, but I like the Tiny the best too.  Any color.  I use them mostly for river smallmouth, and the Tiny hooks up a little better than the larger ones. Although, even small fish will attack the big ones.

You're going to need a hook sharpener, though, because the hooks it comes with get dull pretty quickly.

I find the Clear Tiny Torpedo to be the bomb (good) in the summer time in lakes with shad.

I have an assortment of them, and used them pretty extensively, unfortunately, i never caught a single fish with them last season, even when they were hitting top-water, but i would guess the bigger versions tend to catch bigger fish. and the hooks do get dull pretty quick, so a sharpener is important.

I have better luck with the tiny torpedo.  Natural leopard frog and clear are the two best colors I have.

Another vote for the tiny. Just like the one in my profile pic.

never fished anything better than the clear tiny torpedo in small rivers, creeks-streams and the marsh and a bull redfish will annihilate it ...

good fishing ...

I agree, The Tiny Torpedo works best for me compared to the other sizes. I will throw the normal size at times, but I notice the tiny version seems to get more strikes. One of the things I like about it is it comes with saltwater grade hooks, and you can throw it on heavy line, Med Heavy Rod if needed around weeds etc....It casts really well for such a small profile.

I re-stocked my torpedo arsenal a few years ago when a local store had a bunch of older ones for $2.99. They came with the old Silver heavy guage saltwater Xcalibur Rotating treble hooks that look like they are bent and need to be replaced...However, they are actually good hooks. Bass typically choke it anyhow, but with all pradco lures, sometimes they come with cheap hooks that need to be replaced.

I have never really noticed one color working better, although I do like the baby bass and the rainbow trout pattern, neither are pretty patterns, but the torpedo is a great lure that I always throw when fishing topwater. I find I can work the torpedo faster than double prop baits with good results.

I've had it get blown out of the water a time or two. I've also had a five or six pound bass gently pick it off of the top and suck it down like a trout slurpng a fly. That was something and talk about heart pounding. I saw the fish slowly come up and just look at it for what seemed like an eternity then it committed came up the last 4-5 inches and took the bait. :)
