I am doing some research to find a good place to plan a bass fishing trip to this summer. Looking to stay in the US this time (last two summers have been to the Amazon and Mexico). I have fished all around the south so maybe somewhere up north like Minnesota, somewhere to catch my first smallmouth. Maybe Mille Lacs or something. Or possible Clear Lake for some good largemouth in California. Y'all have any suggestions?

Minnesota sounds good. It’s unfortunate that northern Michigan is void of smallmouth because the scenery is nice. ?

Summer at Clear Lake can have algea bloom issues but with this years extremely high water the fishing should good.

My experience with Minnesota is the summers are hot and humid, Minnesotans head north to Canada. Lake of the Woods, Rainy River and north shore of lake Superior and Georgian bay of Lake Heron.

If you want to come to the northeast, we have some good smallmouth fishin'. Lake Eerie inbetween New York and Canada is known to have some great smallies as is Lake Champlain between New York and Vermont. Then there are many great smaller lakes in Vermont you could try -- Lake St. Catherine and Lake Bomoseen would be at the top of my list (and are a short drive apart), and Seymour Lake, Lake Salem or either Echo Lake should also be good.

Clear lake or the Delta would be awesome...for me...if I could use my boat it would be the Columbia River above the Dalles.  Soooooo peaceful and hardly any people and amazing smallies.
