Reel for a Jerkbait Rod

Featured Replies

What reel would be good paired up with a Medium casting rod for jerkbaits? I was thinking of using either my Daiwa Fuego CT 6.3:1 or my Shimano SLX 6.3:1...or should I use a higher speed reel?

I use a 8:1 Abu Revo SX Gen4. I like faster reels to pick up the slack quicker to get a better hook set.

For jerk and crankbaits on a BC, I use my President which is a 7.3:1. Gives me a good middle ground - slow down the reeling if needed, or speed it up.

I also prefer a higher ratio for jerkbaits.

I like 8's for jerks, since most of the work is done with the rod.......picking up slack and timing is easier with an 8/1 for me

I use a 6.3:1 SLX

Your just rolling up slack and the last thing you want to do is drag the bait with the reel.

I like something in the 6:1 range.
