The Match the Hatch Game

Featured Replies

Thought it would be interesting to hear how the members would ‘match the hatch’ (colors, bait, etc). This is a common AZ crawdad.

I use to have some orange Uncle Josh pork frogs that I would use with a brown jig  and it worked well . I dont have any orange baits now but I'm sure there are brown and orange craws available . There are lots of brown/orange  craw cranks in production .

Z-man's Mudbug color TRD Crawz would be a good match.

If you're trying to get as close as possible, I don't think you can get much closer than the Savage gear craw, I think the color is even pretty spot on

Crayfish (crawdads) are non native in Arizona, what you posted looks to be a southern red swamp crayfish, very common in both Arizona and California.

Jig with twin tail soft plastic trailer in cinnamon brown with black-red/purple flakes (GYCB #221) or Roboworm in oxblood light red flake.

I thought all of these responses were very spot on. When I got home, I examined my current inventory and had a little fun with it:
