Trying to get more into Crappie fishing as I had a blast catching them during a trip to Washington.  Loaded up on some Bobby Garland shads, Lunker's grubs and BPS Crappie Max tubes.  Now I need to buy some jig heads.  Was going to buy the BPS Crappie Max jig heads in 1/16 and 1/8 but have had issues with other BPS jig hooks bending in the past.  I read @TOXIC  Crappie thread where he uses the Gamakatsu jig heads.  Love Gamakatsu hooks and leaning towards picking some of those up, especially since I'm not concerned with matching the color of the jig head to the bait.  

 

But... is there a jig head that is somewhere in the middle?  Strong sharp hook but not so expensive?  Thanks in advance for any and all input!!

I bought cheap, unpainted jig head 1/32 up to 1/16 in a bulk package from either eBay or amazon. I never have problem hook bending while pulling in crappie or bass 2-3lbs as long as drag set properly.

If you want a good, cheap and strong jig head may be try it with #4 sickle hook. BTW, hook file is your friend when buying cheap hook. 

I also experiment painting my own jig head with Enamel paint or cheap Nail Polis, I think powder coated paint is a little too much since I normally cast and reel. 

 

Cheap eagle claw tin jig heads worked for me with crappie, especially when paired with a Crappie Magnet or a 2-inch curl tail grub.

 

Crappie Sliders are my favorite. Just set the hook a tad harder.

Owner makes some good ones but you'll have to import them. The wire is a thinner gauge making the hooks wickedly sharp and less prone to tearing holes in their mouths.

I like a 1/16 or 1/32oz ballhead with a #6 Eagle Claw Lil Nasty hook, I pour them myself. 

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  Next time I'm at BPS I'll pick up a few packs and see what works.  I know they sell one called Lindy Jig.  I'll try those as well.

I've been using Trout Magnet with success, very cool!

I usually fish  2" or 2 1/4" tube jigs, but when throwing a grub body, I will buy Arkie brand or whatever Walmart has in white painted head 1/16 or 1/8oz for really windy or deep fishing.  The 1/8oz also work well for White Bass when they are running.   I don't worry about bending a hook on a fish but it is nice to get the jig back on lighter line if the hook will bend.  My equipment I fish them on is usually a 6'6"-7.0' Medium light fast or Xtra Fast action Bass spinning rods with a Shimano Sedona 1000 with 6lb.

Like Blue I make my own.  I use a ball head with no collar.  I also make baits similar to the Bobby Garland Baby Shad and a bait like a Slab Buster.   I glue the baits to the heads.  I use an Eagle Claw #4 hook.  I have landed bass over 6# and walleye over 5# on those hooks.  I use 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4 oz heads depending on how deep I am fishing.
