Does anyone know an easy way of doing this?

WD-40 and a plastic scraper

I just put the new one on top of the old one.

Hair drier heat and peel off.

Any of those above.  I've never tried WD40 to get the adhesive off, I've always used MEK since I always have some around and seldom have WD40.

That's on an aluminum boat though..right? MEK and plastic (like my canoe) don't play well together.

Didn't think about some people have plastic floaters.  Definitely do not use MEK on any of the poly stuff.  On Aluminum and fiberglass it works great, but can melt most poly materials.

The last time I had to do this, I remembered the hair dryer trick, but then I couldn't find mine and I thought going to town to get a new one just to take a sticker off my boat was a little silly.  So anyway, I used Goof-off and a razor scraper and the sticker came off pretty quick.   Less than a one beer task.

Another advantage of being married.....no stortage of hair dryers:happy-111:

The 3M adhesive remover works well. I just removed my old registration in April and after rubbing for a while there is literally no evidence of it being there. Well I applied the new one after it all dried so now I’m good for 3 years again.
