Alpha Slasher vs Megabass Jerkbait Special

Featured Replies

Granted I cant get the levante right now, but what just curious to hear people's thoughts between these 2 rods for topwater and jerkbaits. It would be amazing if someone had experience with both, but whatever feedback would be appreciated.

Slasher for the price and ability. Megabass for the looks and placebo effect of getting one of the most expensive rods in which always adds 50hp at the crank.

You can get a slasher AND the new tophammer which is a slasher with more power for specialing in topwater for the price of the megabass.

i am referring to the levante so its a 200 rod vs a 235 dollar rod for the alpha. it seems people like the jerkbait special (realistically it seems i wont go wrong with either), but can anyone comment about the differences?

also if this was to pull double duty and  throw topwaters that are slightly over 1/2 oz which one would be preferable?

I have a LV jerkbait special I'm willing to sell.

Megabass Levante is a fantastic rod series. That would be my pick. The jerkbait special is extremely versatile

I have both and like both. I like the feel of the alpha for JB more, but the MB is more versatile.  Depends on what you want out of it.

....side note, I think the flatside special out performs both...But that is just personal preference based on what I throw

MB Flatside is an awesome rod. Great recommendation. My vote is for the MBs.

appreciate that feedback. i definitely will throw a lot of topwater so i like to hear that the mb is more versatile. i also see that it has a higher lure weight range so i feel like i can work my heavier topwaters easier. i definitely favor faster action than a slower action hence why i ruled out the flatside

I have two slashers, they are great rods.  I throw ito 110s in the winter and topwaters up to a 1oz super spook in the summer.   Great rod across the board.

Can not speak for the MB stick as I've not fished them.

However, The Slasher is my Go-To casting rod for Jerkbaits and has been very effective taking several plus sized brown bass.  Started fishing it May 2018 - and haven't looked back.

This sweet stick also accounted for my PB Musky this spring.

Which immediately earned it a permanent position in my personal Fishing Rod Hall of Fame.

Good Luck with your decision.

i think that either one i decide on will be okay...just wish i knew which one is slightly stiffer to help walk/twitch baits better.

Go with the Megabass. Not even a question about it. Its exactly what I feel you are looking for.

Megabass for me as well. You will be pleased with the jerkbait special from Megabass for sure. I love mine!
