Skirted jigs

Featured Replies

Hey,  I was wondering where you guys buy your jigs at. I want to buy a surplus of casting and football jigs that are going to be dependable without spending $4+ a jig.

- never stop fishing

Seiberts jigs are awesome and they do have a sale section.  I have also had good luck finding jigs at Tackle Supply Depot for cheap in their blowout deals section.

I use Mike's jigs and spinnerbaits exclusively. You can PM him here, and have him do custom work as well. @Siebert Outdoors

You can find less expensive shirted jigs then Siebert but not the quality and with premium hooks. Jig hook is the most important component of any jig and 5 cent hook is less expensive then 35 to 50 cent hooks, don't waste your money on jigs with cheap 5 cent hooks.

Dirty Jigs are the best but $5 a pop depending on the jig.  Nichols is a close second for me, they make great jigs, spinnerbaits, etc for the dollar.

I started buying Boss jig heads and Dirty Jigs skirts at TW in bulk when they have sales. The recent 15% off sale, the jigs total with the head/skirt end up costing $2.50 a piece. The jig heads come with Mustad ultra point hooks, and Dirty Jigs skirts are excellent. When the sale isn't on it's about $2.80 per completed jig.

I do this also. The Boss jigs have been great, skirting them yourself is easy and fun. However I bought the skirts unlimited kit on TW for 30$. That has everything you need to make 50 jigs. The kit advises to use 2 pieces of skirt material. I kind of like two and a half. Plus that half allows you to add a third color. You can be pretty creative, I love to add a half a skirt of red to a lot of my jigs.

I am a dedicated jig fisherman and decided back in '71 to make my own jigs that met my goals. Before that time football jigs were my favorite because where I fish is rocky deep structure lakes with sparsh cover so a wire hook gaurd jig worked good. So I modified the football head design to a viper head standup jig, goes through rocky structure without hanging up and keeps the trailer upright.

When I teach a bass fisherman to fish jigs I suggest using Yamamoto football jigs with wire weed gaurd and Hula grub trailers. If fishing heavier cover my suggestion is Arkie style jig head with fiber weed guards. GYCB plain black football jig with Gamakatsu hook      Are about .90 cents each, hard to find a better football jig. You will need to buy your own skirts at Barlows Tackle or similar outlet.

You purchase Do-It molds, hooks, skirts, lead, lead pot and make your own jigs. When you put all the cost together a better understanding of jig prices should become clear.

As stated earlier site sponsor Siebert Outdoors is a good source.

I use Pigsticker ,  a Local guy here on Table Rock.

The quick 5 football head is really good as is the Powell jig.

Great quality and reasonably priced.

Another vote for siebert jigs. Has a huge selection of colours and different heads for any situation you encounter.

Siebert Outdoors Jigs  ?

Like Ole Tom @WRB said it's about the hook first.

Mustad Ultra Point is the best period!
