Decided on Expride

Featured Replies

Thanks for the help in my other thread. Now my thinking, before I decided on the Expride was I gonna get a

med powered rod. The Expride should be the most sensitive rod I will have. It makes sense to me it should become my new bottom contact rod. The handful of jigs I have are 3/8 with trailer. The med Expride is 1/4-3/4, that might be pushing it. I also throw allot of weightless rage craws. I can throw them on my other mh, or I’m sure the med Expride would be great for that. Right now I fish from the shore, but next season I will have a fully set up 14’ Jon boat. That is making me think twice about what I thought my small rod collection was gonna be. I can’t help but think a mh Expride should become my new jig, t rig rod. Any suggestions would be great. Sorry so long.

Get the 7'2" med hvy.

It's a very versatile rod. You will like it.

It does good with bottom contact baits.

The 6'10" med is not a good t-rig/ jig rod.

It's too soft. It's better for jerkbaits or topwaters

Thanks, that’s the type of stuff I want to hear.

I own the 7'2" H Expride and I've been surprised at how light of stuff I've been able to throw with it. The tip is soft enough to throw 1/4oz baits a long way, but it's got that heavy backbone to drive the hook home on my heavier wire jigs.

Definitely go with the medium heavy if your mostly throwing jigs on it.  You will be glad you have the extra power.

Thanks guys, that’s pretty much the way I was going with it. Now for the important ? Does it ever go on sale.

I've never bough Shimano stuff from TW but I've heard they do a backdoor thing for Shimano during their sales.

Shimano Expride was discounted on Labor day sale at TW. 7'2mh feels good in hand.

Good to know. The next one is probably on Black Friday when they’ll be out of stock.

I’d probably keep the 6’10 medium for top water, jerks, flukes and such, make for a good senko, shakey head rod. The 7’2” medium-heavy would be the route I’d go for versatility!!

I have the 7'2" med-heavy. It's a great rod that I use for my jigs. And it's one of the nicest looking rods around (if that sort of thing matters to you).

I do think my Kistler Helium 3 is more sensitive, though. Not saying the Expride isn't, it is. But if you don't wanna wait around, you can get the Helium for $195 (reg. $300) right now with the sale price, plus the extra 11% off code. I'd get either the 7'1" or 7'4" in the med-heavy/extra fast.

You get free shipping with orders over $199. But if you call them I guarantee they'll throw the free shipping in.

If you get the Expride you'll have to order a Fuji hook keeper since the rod, strangely, doesn't come with one.

That’s pretty tempting. I’ve been thinking about it for a while I’m gonna stick with the Expride. Thank you for the info n
