line weight for deeper diving crankbaits

Featured Replies

i RARELY throw crankbaits other than squarebills / DT 6-10's / wiggle warts, but i figure i'll go out of my comfort zone this weekend and throw some deeper diving cranks. going to give a shot at some DT14's and DT16's. what weight line is ideal for deeper cranks? i usually throw my other cranks on 12# p-line tactical.

That line would work well as it is around same diameter of Trilene xl and / or stern mono. Which is usually the basis of Crankbait depth testing. They test using the 10lb line and your 12lb flourish is almost same diameter

Either 10 or 12 for me, I use either Silver Thread or Trilene XL. Both are between .011-.013 diameter.

12# Sniper for me

12 lb is fine.  I use 12# abrazx for 6XDs, works great for me.

FWIW - Pline Tactical is great line, tried it this year and have been using it a lot.  Their 20 lb is great flipping line  ?

7’2 MH enigma HPT crankbait rod. it’s rated up to 3/4oz so i know i’m probably pushing its limit

Give the rod a try, it may work OK. Shouldn't have any issue casting just may be a little under powered retrieving lure at a moderate pace.
