Ned Rig / Shakey head in Cold Water

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I am starting to learn Ned rig fishing and shakey head fishing, but with the weather finally starting to get cold here in Virginia I wanted to know if that tactic is worth continuing to pursue.  I have a lot of Zman heads, TRDs, Craws, etc. as well shakey head set ups.  So, my question is this, does shakey head and ned rig produce in cold, clear water with the hydrilla dying off?

If it does, can you recommend particular baits as well that maybe I did not mention?

Thanks for the advice everyone,

Wdy

As long as the water isn’t frozen I use plastics and jigs successfully.

Yes!

one of the best baits you can use in cold water!

Just slow down some and you’ll be pulling them in!

in cold water I often downsize.

For a ned rig the finesse shadz works really well. The skinny tail has a subtle action that seems to get more bites for me, in cold water,  than a standard trd.

Skayhead I usually use a roboworm or zoom finesse worm.

Worked in MI at 47 degrees a week or so ago.  Ned finesse TRD and 3.5 inch tubes for smb.

Used a Ned Rig in May with water temps in the mid 40's to bag this tank . . .

And I get very close to the camera which has a super wide angle lens.

Really helps the viewer to get a clear look at those weights on the scale.
