High School Fishing Teams

Featured Replies

My son is joining the Schools Team. Since the Schools don't provide anything and I don't own a boat. I have to borrow one of my Father n laws boats. He has 2, one is a really nice Bass Boat and one his is river boat. He is letting us use the River boat. it's a 1979 Bass Tracker. Has trolling motor, 2 Live wells, Fish Finder etc... Only issue is it has a 60hp Outboard with a Jet Drive. It's a nice well maintained boat. garage kept and been in the family just about it's whole life.

I've looked over the Rules and it stats propeller-driven only. Will I not be able to use this boat? I've been trying to get a hold of the coach for a couple of weeks. But he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I don't think my Father n law will like the idea of having to swap motors on it. He would then lose his River Boat during my Sons Fishing Seasons. And he wasn't keen on letting us use his high dollar boat.

If my Son doesn't have a Boat. I don't think they let him on the Team.

I have a couple of high school team kids who come over and make baits.  Only one of the dads has a boat.  I know one team where neither dad had a boat but a friend offered to be the boater.  I think all that is necessary is for a boater to be available for the team.  Does your son’s partner’s dad have a boat?

I don't know if they'll let you use the jet drive. I help with a high school tour here in Arkansas and we wouldn't. In certain situations it can be an unbelievable advantage. Especially anytime backwaters are involved. Only one way to find out for sure though and that's ask. Good luck

Couple things:

Owning boat can’t be a prerequisite. Can’t.

Will it help, yeah.

I coach high school football. Exactly 1 child on our team of 60 has a vehicle. If our kids don’t have a ride we pick them up. If we can’t, we Uber them, get them a month bus pass for $20, call grandma, auntie, next door neighbor, moms boyfriend, whatever
In other words, if he wants to fish, and you want him to fish, he’ll find a way.
