Favorite Swimbait Rods

Featured Replies

What's everyone favorite rods for hardbody swimbaits? I'm in the market for a couple of new ones so I'm curious what everyone likes to use. Expensive or inexpensive, doesn't matter. Let me know what you throw with them too! Thanks!

What size baits are you throwing? I use a Dobyn's Fury 795 for a lot of mine but most of the baits I'm fishing are glides and wakes in the 2-4oz range.

What type of swimbaits, weight? Hard body usually means treble hook lures so the line type is important. Reel type and size being used?

Swimbait rods are usually fast/moderate action 7'10" to 8' and power depends on lure weight. General rule is the rod lure weight recommendation should be nominal for the lure weight being used; 1 to 4 oz nominal = 2 1/2 oz lure, 2 to 8 oz = 5 oz lure etc.

I'm be throwing anywhere from 1/2oz all the way up 8oz so I'm going with multiple rods. Two, if not three. The lures I use most often are 1.3 to 5oz. Reels are Daiwa Catalina, a Ryoga and an Abu Revo Winch.

You're going to need a beefy rod to handle 8oz lures, if you're topping out at 5oz - grab a 795SB and 806SB in the Fury line up. There's plenty of others that are slightly cheaper like the Okuma Guide select (although the new version has a weaker warranty), Nomad Express (travel) or the Daiwa DXSB.

Daiwa DX swimbait rods are great for the price.  I have the heavy version.
