I found a great reel on sale that i didn't really need and now its feeling lonely so I'm looking at rods I don't really need. I found a great medium-moderate casting rod on sale amd am intrigued. I already have a MH/M crankbait rod that covers the cranks I use, so Im wondering what I could use this for. I think it would overlap and still be great for cranks like wiggle warts but wondering what other baits/applications you'd use a M/M for? Rated 1/4 to 5/8 oz.

My medium-moderate gets used for inline spinners and smaller suspending cranks

Light/finesse cranking... I'm thinking early season stuff like shad-raps, flat-siders, small-bodied medium depth plugs.  I usually throw on a medium-heavy spinning setup to get better casting distance and use lighter line; with a good reel, you could accomplish the same thing with this rod.

 

I grind my WWs pretty good and personally like a MH/M for that.

I actually just picked up a M-Mod stick last week.

I like it. 

Been a MH-Mod man for a while and just made due when throwing 3/8 ounce baits.

But the MH really didn't load the best on the cast.

The new Med-Mod is much better - shouldn't really be a surprise I guess.

Sometimes I'm not that quick on the up take . . .

love my med mod. I run a 6.3 gear ratio and have gone back and forth between 12 lb mono and 15 lb braid. for what ever reason, I like the light braid. I throw small cranks, jerk baits in a pinch, finesse swim jigs, like pitch and straight reel, seikos under docks, topwater of course, small spinnerbaits, you name it. pretty much any lure thats too small for a 7' mh and too big for a spinning rod imo. hope this helps, can get more specific if you want, just ask

I have a 7' MM rod that I used for all my reaction baits, anything under 1oz or that has trebles. I liked it better running 12lb YZH over braid to leader. Excelled with 10ft cranks, square bills, and smaller swimbaits like Jackall Giron or Spro BBZ-1 Shad and Rat 30. Too much of a wet noodle for topwater walking, okay with a popmax but don't even try to walk-the-dog.

#15 lb. braid on a bait cast rod ? I would think that braid in such small diameter would dig in to the reel too much ?

More versatile than you may think- depending on the specific rod's characteristics and your tastes.

 

I have a 7' Med/Mod falcon that I comfortably use for basically any treble hook presentation that doesnt dramatically overshoot the weight rating, or offer too much resistance, like a larger squarebill. I love it for throwing 5/8 rattlin vibes, .05 -1.5 RC's, 200 Bandits, Sammies, Zell Pops/Ricos, etc

I found that out in a similar situation. Had to step it up. Cured that cutting in problem. 

I throw weightless wacky rigs and chatter baits on mine. A little underpowered for 3/8 ounce chatter baits but the hook up ration is excellent. 

Add small spoons, small jerkbaits, and drift rigs in current to small cranks.

i have a 7ft m/m curado rod that i throw squarebills, dt 6's, 3/8 spinnerbaits, & chatterbaits(if there is no grass to rip through). feels great and buttons em up

Hmmmm i may need to pick it up and run all my cranks on it since they don't go over 1/2 oz anyways. Ill save the MH/M for deeper cranks should I get into that and also use it for rippin raps or bottom bouncing and spinner rigs for walleyes. I've got a M/F casting rig but find I don't fish much in the way of heavier jigs or anything that would require a MH or fast action. Doubling up on the moderate action may be worth it.

 

Anyone use a moderate action for jerkbaits? I'd probably run 30 lb braid to a 10 lb mono leader on this. I like to straight crank jerbaits too like x raps (walleyes love this) or husky jerks that would likely cast much better on a moderate action.

I've got a 7' M/M Avid and use it for 1.5 and 1.0 squarebills. I've never even tried anything else on it.

I have this same rod - love it.  Try it for light spoons or even inline spinners.  Works well with any small hook, moving bait.  Even caught some pretty big (10# or better) steelhead with it, casting to them in shallow water.

theyve discontinued it along with the premier crankbait series ? but thats why Im considering grabbing one!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never in all my years fishing thrown a spoon or inline spinner. I probably should give both a try as my primary fishing these days is river/creek/small lake or pond kayak fishing. What spoons and inline spinners would you recommend throwing with this rod.

Not sure. Possibly wasn't seeling enough sales and theyre going to focus on just having crankbait rods within the bassX, Mojo, legend glass, legend tournament lines. Thats what it seems like to me.

The M/M avid i planned on picking up is shown on the st croix website but is out of stock. So there goes that plan. The only other M/M graphite rod they have is the legend tournament and i dont think i want a glass mojo.

I have a 7'2" MM SC Rage, which gets used for any shallow (and some mid-depth) crankbaits 1/4-1/2oz -- KVD & LC squarebills 1.0 & 1.5, Bandit 100, 200 & footloose, Manns 1-, stuff like that.
