Dick's Sporting Goods what are they thinking

Featured Replies

As of jan’20, East Hanover, NJ store is well stocked for terminal, softs, line; mediocre for rods and yards; weak selection of reels.

I'm one of those supporters that refuse to step foot in another DSG. When they destroyed those AR's as political move that was the straw.    Hope they bankrupt. Good riddance

  • Doesn't bother me. Ours doesn't have much selection and I'd rather support my local shop.

  • They haven't been relevant in years, in this area.

Dick's Sporting Goods what are they thinking? First AR's now they quit selling fishing gear in retail stores! Ask an employee if that was just the Wentzville MO store and he said was the whole region. He went on to say well you can order online. I have no reason to go to any of their stores again.

I literally have zero reasons to visit the Wentzville dicks now. Awsome. Thanks for the heads up.

Where I live in Mass they are also expanding the fishing section

Firstly Gazz, welcome to BassResource!

I'm just south of Boston.  Which DSG are you talking about?  Cabela's is an hour away from me.

The one up in Palm Beach is lavish, added like 50% more to the department last year. I buy my Dark Sleepers there.

I won't be going to dicks anymore because I can get anything there selling on line and cheaper thank God there are other Sporting good stores to get hunting supplies and guns (hey dicks bye bye )

Went to Dick's a couple days ago just to look around, what a mistake.  The selection was minimal and besides that, the prices were ridiculously high.  Now I realize why I stopped going there.  Never going back.

Okay - I'm weak.

Stopped in at DSG yesterday just to check. Hunting section gone, canoes and kayaks moved in there. Fishing section actually expanded a bit.

With the closest Cabelas being almost an hour away, BPS three hours away...the 'new and improved' DSG here is the only place with a wide selection. The local bait-shop primarily caters to the walleye/northern crowd - very little bass stuff.

So it seems that DSG is once more an option for me.

Did pick up a MH/M spinning rod that was on sale - fills out my arsenal for this year.

Well I recieved a 50 dollar gift card for DSG at xmas...went in today and was surprised at what they had in their (NE Ohio store) plenty of shotguns, some 450 Rugers, Ruger 6.5 creedmoors,a few others no ar's,lots of avian turkey decoys and plenty of calls, lots of lews combo fishing gear mach green, orange, and white green, even had some lower end diawa combos baitcaster and spinners...lots of lures, soft plastics, kinda unreal what they had there...anyway left there with a shimano sienna 30 bucks, that's going price everywhere, and a ned rig kit, finished my 50 dollar gift card,so no need to really go back in there...they closed a gander outdoors down that was close ,cabelas is 1-1/5 hours away and BPS is 3 hrs away.....oh they also had Dobyns Furys baitcaster and spinning rods $119.00 each pretty good selection too kinda surprised me

Thanks! I actually live in the Worcester area in a small town called Lunenburg. I and about 25 min from the Cabela’s in Hudson, MA. There is a Dicks in Leominster about 10 min from me and they were telling me that they will likely be close to doubling their fishing section and inventory once all the hunting is cleared out. I was also told the same thing about the Nashua, NH location. I hope they are right!

I know the place...  I hope you fish the Quabbin, since you're about an hour closer than I am.  Opening day is April 18th.  Good to hear about your DSGs.

I will likely be going there this season. My boat can be pretty brutal on bigger bodies of water since it's only a 10 foot jon with a trolling motor on it but it definitely beats standing on the bank. It has actually handled 3 grown men somehow. We were told that we looked like 3 men in a tub.

I rent one of theirs for $50, only because I don't have my own boat and they don't allow kayaks on the main body...

Best of luck getting out there.
