Autobiography

Featured Replies

I have read Mike Iaconelli: Fishing on the Edge. I just ordered Jay Yelas: A Champion's Journey of Faith, Family, and Fishing.  Any other autobiographies I should look into?

Was the Iaconelli book typed in all caps?

Yes it was. I enjoyed reading his story.  We see what television shows us about anglers.  Reading his book Ike imo wasn't any different then an avg Joe.  I indeed recommend it.

I listened to Ike's book on Audible while driving to a tourney.  He narrated it and it was very enjoyable.  I think more people would like him more if they read his book and watched his Ike live shows.  He's a pretty awesome guy, just really annoying when he catches fish, lol.

It's just annoying passion lol.  Imagine being in the Classic, your in first he is in second. Then you start hearing him yell. That would be worst than the rack of a pump shotgun.  I listen to his podcast on my way to work.

If Iaconelli is your gold standard and Jay Yelas you difinately have both ends of the spectrum covered. Think Like a Fish by Tom Mann isn't a autobiography but a good read and insight into a bass fishing pioneer.

He also has a book on finesse fishing -- it's actually pretty decent, but it's short and almost half of it is pictures.

As for autobiographies, Shaw Grigsby has a book that combines his biographical story with techniques and tips: Bass Master Shaw Grigsby: Notes on fishing and life.

As a kid my dad and I would fish, hunt, watch wrestling.  I also read wrestling autobiographies. Eddie Guerrero, and Shawn Michaels were both good books.  Not a wrestling fan anymore but i do enjoy reading the lifes of the wrestlers from my child hood.

Iaconelli has multiple personalities. I like Ike and he's a great fisherman that shares his knowledge. His behavior seems to be determined by what he's participating in , YouTube video, tournament, seminar, etc.

Like so many people his behavior is determined by the circumstances he finds himself in. It takes great discipline to always be the same person.

I understand why he turns so many people off.  But there's nobody else who radiates pure enthusiasm for fishing the way he does, and I find it infectious.

If you're into Smallmouth Bass fishing, Billy Westmoreland's book, "Them Ol Brown Fish" is a great book. A little Dale Hollow Lake history, info about Billy and some of the old time guides. Tony Bean's book, "The Last Smallmouth" is great.

I also enjoyed Ray Scott's book, "Bass Boss". By the way, I have both Yelas and Ike's books too. I enjoyed both.

In am in East Central Alabama.  We have no smallies that I am aware of. Heard rumors (i assume are lies) of people catching some. Which I  could be wrong.  I will look into those as well. Thank you!

I lost respect for Ike a few years ago. I called in to Ike Live and we swapped alligator stories. He then told me on air that he was going to send me a bunch of gear and read off what was going to be sent to me. I'm still waiting despite contacting him about it at least half a dozen times.

What ticked me off is that this was just before Christmas and I was going to give this stuff to my young son who was just really getting into bass fishing.
