It's not luck, it's employing a methodical approach to locating and catching lunker bass during spring.  Here's how:

 

 

Thanks for mentioning the deeper beds in clear water. We've got a couple lakes with gin water and I've directed a few to deeper beds and they acted like I was trying to direct them away from prime spots. I've never seen beds deeper than 15, but have seen a lot of them in the 12' range in that clear water. Enjoy your videos @Glenn, keep them coming!

Deep spawners are rare where I fish. By deep I mean over 15' even in extremely clear water with deep of light at 25'. The reason is simple the water is too cold for eggs to hatch.

Having targeted big bass nearly 65 years now successfully I agree the majority of bass anglers fish too shallow during the initial pre spawn period before bass move up into water less then 8' deep. The giant bass are very wary and tend stay in water over 8' deep with short excursions into shallower water. 

Big bass behavior can't be canned into a category because these bass are individuals with thier own behavior traits. You can put the odds in your favor but targeting depths between 5' to 20' when the surface water is 55 to 58 degrees, the primary initial pre spawn period.

Theres a few deeper brush-piles that I hit religiously when the water temp in in the 50's .Dont know if they are spawning down there , but they are hanging there .
