Lead, mono, hook

I'm still using the T rig in its basic, original form. Lead slip sinker, monofilament line, and a straight shank worm hook. How many others are still using this rig?

I still use mono . I bought some tungsten late last year   . I figure I dont lose that many rigs , so I bought 40 dollars worth to get the free shipping . I like tungsten  a lot . I bought some straight shank hooks last year and lost my biggest bass of the year . The hook did not penetrate the six inch jelly worm . It was a  thick heavy cover hook  . I immediately replaced it with my dependable thin wired offset hook .

They are much smaller . I imagine I'll get a little bit higher hook up percentage with them . Plus they are noticeably more sensitive .

I'll probably try some before it gets hot. I looked at them when they first came out. 6 to 7 bucks for 3 or 4 weights, so I passed. They've gotten more affordable now

Catt, are you sold on the tungsten weights?

I dont spend a lot of money on lures these days , I have enough so forty dollars on weights wasnt too much .

My typical Texas Rigs are 1/8-3/16-1/4 oz so the smaller tungsten is of no advantage.

Don't think that was the hooks fault  ?

I see so many threads on different rigs these days. Most guys have switched to braid, braid / leader or flouro which I don't care for. So , I'm still sticking with Big Game mono. I was just curious how many others are fishing a worm this way? The only change I might make would be a tungsten sinker.

Catt, that's what I was thinking also. I'm mostly using 1/8 to 1/4 myself. Those lead weights are pretty small. The tungsten weights might be good as a flipping weight in 1/2 oz or so?

This was how I was taught to rig up a t-rig.

I did that last week on Toledo Bend, must have missed a dozen...ain't did that in years!

Did it with both straight shank & offset.

Fought some all the way to the boat.

Still old school..But, I do have a good supply of Tungsten weights, when the lead weights wear out..lol

Mono, works fine for me, as most of the water is stained. I do use a combo of straight and ewg hooks though.
