Just purchased a pile of 6" zoom lizards from academy after I saw they had risen to $4.29 a pack at walmart.  They will always work...the OG creature bait.

      I like to throw a zoom lizard in watermelon red flake. In the water it looks a lot like a red stopped newt, which is a popular salamander in our lakes and ponds on the eastern coast.

     As for brands and colors, I've heard good things about Strike King and Zoom for soft plastic lizards. Watermelon red and green pumpkin are classic colors that often work well.
