Dumb question. Should I attempt it with the boat on the trailer or wait til I'm at the lake. I don't want to pull the old one off if its going to be an issue putting the new one on

I replaced mine with my boat on the trailer, but the bow wasn’t pulled up really tight. 

Crank the trailer jack up as high as possible then put something under the keel, I used a milk crate, then crank it back down. The bow of the boat will then be up high enough off the roller to change it easily.

I have a floor jack.  I put a 2x6 on top of the jack and lift the bow a couple of inches before I start.

Nooo problem.  I changed mine in 10 minute since the new one had the same diameter as the old one and it just took a gentle nudge to get the roller bar through.  The boat weight in on the bunk boards.

That may be the case with your boat but it isn’t with mine.

I tied mine to the rafter in my carport and lowered the jack.

I may need to replace mine this season too and was wondering if this was the best route to go. Please let me know how you approach this task and whether it was successful when you’re done. Thanks

I did mine at the boat launch brought everything with me took less than 5 minutes. 

I did mine with the boat on the trailer. No special jack or milk crate or sky lift needed. Took less than 5 min.

Just loosen the bow trailer strap and see if the roller can turn. 

I change to the roller kits with bell caps to help guide the bow onto the center roller.

Never gave it much thought and just cshnged out the roller by loosening the winch strap.

The center roller is cracked in half and the bell caps are deformed. It rained all day today. I'm going to take a better look at it tomorrow. I picked up the replacement today at Farm and Fleet.

I don’t know how you boat fits on the roller.  If it just comes up against it you may have an easy job.  My bow goes up and over the roller and rests on it.  I either had to off load the boat or use my jack.

What is your boat sitting on on the trailer?

Looked at it closer this morning. Going to do it at the lake.
