Picked up the new boat Monday
i haven't purchased a brand new boat in years. Usually I buy late model used boats but this was a deal to good to pass up. It's a new leftover 2018 Ranger Z521c Cup edition. The color is very similar to the 2012 521 that I traded in. One difference is the contrasting color on the top of the gunnels on this one. In the picture it looks orange but it's really copper. It really pops when you see it in person.

Coolest thing you've ever witnessed while fishing?
The second coolest thing I ever saw was when I was working down a bank fishing laydowns. There was one tree that went down into the water and then bent back up and out of the water. There was a squirrel on the shore near the base of the laydown pacing back and forth and really making a lot of noise. I wondered what what getting him so worked up when I noticed a big acorn sitting on the laydown where it came back up out of the water. After watching him for a few minutes, it happened. The squirrel ran down and decided to swim across that little bit of water and get the acorn. Just as he gets to the other side and grabs the acorn, the biggest bass I have ever seen jumps up and swallows that squirrel whole. The absolute coolest thing I have ever seen is when that bass came up and put another acorn there.

Bow roller replacement
Crank the trailer jack up as high as possible then put something under the keel, I used a milk crate, then crank it back down. The bow of the boat will then be up high enough off the roller to change it easily.

How many carry while out fishing in the boat.
It saddens me when I read a response that contains a personal attack simply for the reason that someone chooses to carry a firearm. For those who choose not to, I respect your decision and would not judge you for it. Maybe your experiences are different from mine and you see no need but let me ask you this. Have you ever pulled up to a remote ramp alone at 5:00am to find it's just you and some beater of a car with two guys sitting inside doing drugs? I have. What if these guys look at my big shiny truck and boat and see nothing but dollar signs? I'm 60 years old, am I supposed to duke it out with them? I prefer to protect myself the best way possible, and that's with a gun. I have never had the need to draw my weapon and I hope I never do, but if the situation ever arises I plan to be ready.

9mm AR
A 9mm shot out of an AR platorm or carbine is fairly accurate out to 50 yards. Once you get to the 75-100 yard range you're looking at an approximate 6 inch drop in trajectory. It sounds like what you want it for would work.

9mm AR
What do you want it for? Self defense, it's ok, fun at the range, yup. Hitting steel plates from far away, no so much. It's funny you brought this up. Next week I'm milling out a couple of 80% lowers and plan of building one as an AR pistol in 9mm.

Why No Success?
A complex question with a complex answer. For years I was the "no success" guy. I was what I now call a "contributor". I would show up at a tournament, pay my money, and someone else would take it home. My biggest failure was that I was a one trick pony. I launched my boat and beat the bank, and I wasn't even good at that. Then one day something clicked. I found an offshore weedline and won my first tournament. Since then I have won quite a few, I'm trying not to sound full of my self but I have finished first in more than fourty tournaments since. I would attribute that success to learning to find fish in different areas and mastering new techniques. Here is another wrinkle. Learning new techniques doesn't mean you have to try them all. I have fished against people who always have to try the latest hot bait or presentation. Learn a few things and perform them well. This doesn't mean not to try something new, It just means that you should have a varied arsenal that you feel comfortable in throwing. For example, my must haves include a jig, which is my go to bait, a senko, dropshot, c-rig, topwater, and a ned rig. I always have other baits and presentations ready but I probably win most of my tournaments with those. I'm not saying that you should use the same ones, just that you should have a half dozen or so rigs that you have confidence in.
