I travel a lot to fish, so it depends on where I am. 2.5lb-3lb. is nice in my area, further south, it's closer to 4lb.

Love to catch them bigger but a 3lb fish is always nice.....

2lbs is big where we fish..get to around 5 its considered a pig. Bass here in the immediate Bay Area at least the 5+ are rare..at least to us lol.

It depends on where your fishing, the weather conditions, and the season.  If you watch MLF pros are thrilled to have a 2 pound bass and consider them a nice bass.  After fishing Florida for 50 years I personally consider a 3 pound bass a nice bass.  I have caught many in the 8 to 9 pound range but they are few and far between, compared to a good 3 pounder.  Even down here some days your the bug, and some days your the windshield.  That's fishing for you, you strive for greatness and often settle for the mundane!  To me that's the fun of it!

For me anything that is over a pound because my pond that I go to has lots of tiny guys. ?‍♂️

I think it all depends on your fishery, but for me anything in the 2-3 range I consider nice when they get into the 4-5 and above I go full Iaconelli.

It depends on my mood.  For the most part anything over 18 and I'm very happy, anything over 20 and I'm ecstatic!  But there are days where I just want to catch bass.  I have an isolated place where I can catch high numbers but there an 18 inch bass is rare and probably rules the place.

I used to go by size, but I've been fishing so many diverse bodies of water lately that I've come to rely more on the health of the fish, and its spunk.

 

To me, a 12" fish that takes a while to land is worth more than an 18" fish that just comes in almost willingly.

 

The one that my daughter caught on my recent thread was a nice one -- bigger for that body of water, and very healthy. However, it didn't fight too hard, maybe due to being spawned out. Didn't really check.

I guess 3 pounds for me too. For LM at least. Smallies too at most lakes i fish. 

    I fish on the St. Lawrence river a lot though. When i fish there i figure not catching anything over 4 akin to getting skunked. The average size smallie in there is pribably 3.5#. Theres a ton of big smallies in there. If i dont get one over 5 on the big river i feel like it wasnt a great day. Odly enough, for as many 5 pounders are in there you rarely see any over 6. They re there but much less common.

     I live in a strange place where big smallies are more common than big LM.

A 7 lb Green Bass and a 5 lb Brown Bass both fit into that category IMO.

7lb+ for largemouth, 5lb+ for smallie

I don’t bother to weigh a bass unless it appears to be 5lb or bigger.  So I’m going with 5lb. 

Anything 3 lbs or over would be a nice bass for me.
