Is it just me or does the new model not seem to cast as well as the old one?

I have both but my met 16 is a jdm. I could "maybe" see the previous version out casting the new one in the perfect scenario. However, I haven't actually tried that. As an original skeptic of the new version I've grown to really love it in the four sessions I've used it. I find the frame slight easier to palm and the shortened length of the frame overall is nice. I have noticed it casting a lighter 5 inch weightless senko better than the previous version. I've not noticed any overall casting distance issues. I also haven't seen any backlashes even with aggressive casting. Flipping & pitching with it is a dream. It's very bantam like, but lighter.

I’ve found almost the opposite. Mine (jdm model) is so ridiculously fast, I actually keep it a bit tighter to maintain a consistent feel with the rest of my stuff.

i remember casting a 1/4 oz jig with it for the first time and watching the thing go “wooooooooooo...” off into the distance like Homer Simpson watching his trap fling a rabbit into orbit.

US model or JDM?

Huge difference in the two spools from what I'm finding.

Especially with casting braid. The USDM spool with 30 pound Sufix 832 was a good 30+ feet short of other Lews, Pfluegers, and Revo's I put it against. The JDM spool was much better.

I have the US version. I had all my old Metaniums set with the side brake to 1 and the tension pretty loose. With the new ones, I can't do that. I have to have more braking or I get backlashes. Maybe there is learning curve to get them dialed in more maximum performance...

"I don't feel like watching a long video. What happened?"

I woke up somewhere near the end. I think he said the new one consistently cast 5 to 8 feet farther than the old reel he hadn't used in quite some time.

I like my two old ones. I can throw baits up on the bank with them.

IMO, even the first Metanium fell short of the Shimano Core which it presumably replaced.

I have the US model, using it mostly for swim jigs for now. Casting is incredible with 2 internal brakes on and 2 off. No complaints.

Didn't you just start a thread almost identical to this a few weeks ago? My new Met is far superior to the 16 I had.
