Frog Rod recommendation

Featured Replies

Sorry if it's been asked before, bit I searched and did not really find what I was looking for. I just started fishing frogs alot, but I am using a M/H 7-3 rod and I am missing alot of strikes and not quite getting alot of solid hooksets when I do get them. (I do use braid, just seems to have but for a few times, maybe one hook on em)

I am looking for a Frog Rod in the  $100-120 ish range. I have looked at the Dobyns Fury 735c but I see that it has an extra fast tip and everything I have read and watched say the best set up is a heavy rod with a fast tip. So not sure if that is what I want. I am kinda wanting something in the 7-2 to 7-3 range. It will be paired with a Daiwa Tatula CT 7:3.

Thanks in advance ?

A lot of good options out there.

Fury 735c is a fast action, and will probably get recommended a lot.

Daiwa Tatula TTU711HFB or TTU741HFB are worth considering.

Is it possible you are setting the hook too soon? It can be a tricky bite, with all the splashing.

You may be pulling the frog out of the fishes mouth too soon.

I try and let them have it for a second or two or feel the rod load up before I set the hook.

I saw that somewhere also. But only 1 place, I forget where as I look at tons of rods and sellers last week. I talked to Gary Dobyns last week and ordered the Fury 734C...due in today!!

If you want the Mag (extra) heavy rod instead of a heavy I would call Dobyns. I think someone just put "extra fast" on their website when it's really a "fast"...but I could be wrong, my wife says I was once...?

This is what I've been using. Definitely gets the job done. Doesn't walk the frog as good as some rods that may have a little softer tip, but can still do it.

Also, it's on sale for $129.99 at Sportsman's Outfitters right now.

OG Tatula 7’4 frog rod is what I use and love it.

I am seeing that on Amazon. Says extra fast tip on the Prime order selection.

I don't think that's right. Call Dobyns Rods to find out.

Take a look at the pics below. MSRP $79. Often on sale for $49 at DSG. Comes in at a tick under 5 ounces. Winn grips. Regardless of price I think it's a great frog rod. Best hookup ratio frogging I've ever had once I tried one of my brother's. Seems to be indestructible. I'm not looking for anything else. It's also great for swimmers up to an ounce with a 6/0 Beast Hook. Try it and bring it back if you don't like it, but you probably will. At least you'll get to hold it beforehand and get a feel for it.

Yep..me too and it is like an extension of my central nervous system.  Hand down my favorite rod.  You already got the reel...get the rod, too

Falcon Bucoo SR 7' 4" H/F is what I've been using and it's a great rod for frogging and right in your price range.
