  1. This thread has been going on for 10 years ( it's 10th birthday is next Thursday). There's 10 tons of info there...126 pages to be exact!
  2. First off I would want two units, as Born 2 Fish mentioned. Second, I would want both units to have down imaging...I think. Not sure what the console unit can show in the trolling motor unit as electronics change almost by the day LOL. I would definitely get one capable of "driving the boat" and plan on upgrading the trolling motor SASP! I had a full setup on a previous boat that would drive the trolling motor by depth or previous marked spots leaving you free to fish. I never spent enough time with that rig to learn it entirely. But what I did learn was way cool! GPS Spot Lock is a must on the trolling motor! The boat I have now is an older knock around and just has a Lowrance 5HDI at the console. I need to add something at the TM.
  3. Sounds like a sweet rig! I may have to get one of those rods to put my President on. You didn't say what size your President was. But I would defiantly get a real nice rod, maybe a Dobyns, and put the President on it. Unless the President has a problem, or too small a size, you probably wouldn't feel the need to replace the reel. Those are really nice reels, I love mine, and it's smoother than my Shimano Sahara. I think you would get a better "bang for the buck" by putting your money into a really nice rod. Just my opinion.
  4. I've got an old spinning reel or two. Thought I knew where they were and went to the shop to get a picture...not where I thought. I'll run across them some day and post a picture. I did find a bunch of trout flies that grandpa tied back in the 50s. Also a couple of Pemco automatic fly reels. I have another in my "Fly Bag" along with the reels I use. I've also got 2 of grandpa's bamboo fly rods from late 40s or so.
  5. We lived in Mission, about a mile from the river, for several years. Moved to MO a couple of yrs ago, closer to kids and grands, but go back for the winters and hang out at Poncho's in Progreso...lol.
  6. Part 2 Also saw some casting deck mods on pg. 120.
  7. Cool! Sounds like you're on your way. That's not bad to register and tag it, could have been a lot worse. I saw a cool idea for a trailer...if I can find the picture again I'll post it. Where in TX are you?
  8. Probably 2010 or 11, when we lived in Baton Rouge LA
  9. He's got a 10E...4' W x 10' L. That trailer is 3'4" W x 4' L. Not wide or long enough.
  10. Ravox, thanks for putting this thread up! It reminded me of a Berkley Lightning Rod I haven't seen in several years. It's a 5' UL, great little perch, red ear, and crappie rod I kept in the RV in case we were someplace with a pond. I went out to the shop and dug in my "pile of rods" and found it! Also dug in my tub or reels and found the Pflueger Micro Spin I had on it. I'll put some fresh 4# hi-vis line on it and go play with the perch in the city lake 2 mi. from the house.
  11. Is Diawa made by someone else? If FedEx ever gets their act together I'll have a new Diawa Fuego CT, it's 2 days late now. Don't know who makes it, but I have a BPS Pro Qualifier that I've used for several years. It has been a great reel, always smooth and reliable. On the handle side case it says "designed by Diawa" and has Diawa cast into the bottom of the reel foot. But after reading this thread I don't know if Diawa makes their own reels or not. Does anyone make their own stuff anymore? Oops...it wasn't the BPS by Diawa, it was a Cabela's Prodigy that says that. Also I looked at a H2O Mettle I'm about to respool, and it says Korea on the foot. It's been a good reel also.

  13. Jon boat to bass boat conversion on You Tube. You'll get a ton of ideas and how to videos. There are some shallow Vs as well as plain Jon boats, the ideas apply to both. I looked at doing one of those several times.
  14. Trailer all the way! Besides, I have a 5th wheel hitch and 45gal. diesel tank in the F250 bed. Never seen an ad for a used one anywhere around. Found a couple on the web but they look to be from years past, or 1000 miles away. I'm sure it would sell very fast. I'm looking for a 10 ft. boat as my wife or one of the grandkids may go out once in a while.
  15. I've got a Pflueger President 6730 5.2:1 that I've had for almost 10 yrs. Great reel, smooth, never had any trouble (knock on wood) in fact I just put fresh line on it last night. Haven't tried the others you mentioned. I also have a Shimano Sahara 2500FE 6.2:1 that I've had for several yrs. Good smooth reel, but I like the feel of the President better.
  16. I don't think that's right. Call Dobyns Rods to find out.
  17. Just ordered a Fuego CT in 8.1:1 ( $74.95 @ Walmart) to go on my new Dobyns Fury 734C. Both due in today!!
  18. "Dobyns Fury 735c but I see that it has an extra fast tip and everything I have read and watched say the best set up is a heavy rod with a fast tip." I saw that somewhere also. But only 1 place, I forget where as I look at tons of rods and sellers last week. I talked to Gary Dobyns last week and ordered the Fury 734C...due in today!! If you want the Mag (extra) heavy rod instead of a heavy I would call Dobyns. I think someone just put "extra fast" on their website when it's really a "fast"...but I could be wrong, my wife says I was once...?
  19. I think it's rating is 1/4 - 1 oz. so 1/8 - 1/4 would be a little lite. But mine is due in tomorrow, and we are forecast to actually have a few days without rain! So I'll try to get it rigged up, if the Diawa Fuego CT comes in, and try it with something 1/8th oz.
  20. WOW!!! $119.95...how many did you buy? Yea I would buy it for $150. It looks to me as having real possibilities, if you like to tinker and build things. The frame itself looks to be good...in the pictures. The wiring, lights, bunks, etc. can easily be redone to fit what you want. I would probably put a flat deck on it with roller bunks first 4 ft. so I could just walk out on it when it's backed in the water. Throw on a new set of tires and wheels, don't forget to replace the bearings, and you're ready to fish. NOW...here's the kicker...you said the trailer doesn't have a title. If the trailer is close to you, I would look closely to see if there is a data plate on it somewhere and try to clean it enough to get any numbers off it, if it isn't handy go to step 2. Second I would spend some time on the phone with your state's DOT and tell them about it to see if getting a title and plate would be possible or a real problem. Then you can make an informed decision. States range from A. "no problem, you don't need a title or tag on a boat or utility trailer" to Z. moron stupid laws and enforcement on trailers. Know every detail before you pull a penny out of your pocket!
  21. Looking at small boats and really like the Twin Troller. Would like to hear from owners...or if you know someone that owns one.
  22. The more a battery is on a charger, being recharged up, the more likely it will need a little fluid. From what I understand. I'm not sure if it's the same for a charger "maintaining" a fully charged battery while not in use. I've always charged the trolling motor battery(s) and checked it within 24hrs or so. If it's fully charged at that time I'll pull the charger. What do you think guys? Is that correct?
  23. You got that right! I lived in Baton Rouge for several years and spent 2-3 days a week in the bayou or Atchafalaya. The last thing you want there is a fiberglass bass boat! Aluminum boats are the way to go. No telling what is just below the surface in the bayou...lol. I had a Fisher (Tracker with different stickers on it) 16' stick steer 40HP Merc. Fantastic boat for one up fishing in the bayou! That thing would run on a wet sponge...lol. The areas around Lake Verret and the I-10 bridge of the Atchafalaya were my stomping grounds. I really miss the bayou! But after that I've had a Ranger 45th Anniversary Z118, Carolina Skiff JVX20CC, and the Tracker 175TF I have now. And thinking about a Twin Troller X10 or Pelican Bass Raider 10E. I tend to match my boat to the area I'm fishing in.
  24. The NEXT one...? That would be a Dobyns Fury 734C at this time It's due in on Monday!
  25. I think it's more like what side of the bed they got up on. I ordered 1. Boomerang line cutter 2. 600yd spool of Yo-Zuri Hybrid 3. 150yd spool of Sufix 832 50# Neon Lime. They shipped the first two items in a box (empty-no packing at all) arrived a few min. ago. The Sufix is in another box arriving tomorrow, hopefully. The line cutter and Yo-Zuri can fit in the palm of my hand...look at the size of the box they used...lol. I wonder what box the Sufix will come in...? ?
