Spinning reel wacky rig line set-ups for 2020

There are several threads on this subject but all are 3 to 5 years old. It’s now 2020, so I wanted to see if opinions have changed.

I have a Daiwa Revros LT2500 spinning reel on a Fenwick HMX 7’ MF rod. My initial plan was to spool on some backing, fill the spool with 20# braid with an 8# copolymer leader. Just wondering if that’s still my best option, or just go with a straight reel filled with 8# copolymer. I’m fishing ponds so the 5” Senkos are not sinking 15’ or more, nor is the bottom rocky.

For my scenario, would you go with braid and a leader, straight copolymer or a straight FC?

I've never used copoly so i can't comment. I use 10 or 15lb suffix 832 hi viz to better see line jumps to an 8lb fluoro leader and love it. I tried buying the best handling fluoro i could find and going straight fluoro and never will again. I feel braid handles much better and haven't had a single issue since i made the switch. On a side note my wife doesn't fish nearly as much as me so for her i spooled on the same braid to a mono leader so she could tie her same knot and she had no issues with line for the first time i can remember. No twists or line jumping off the reel.

I use 10lb suffix 832 hi viz yellow and a 8lb copoly  leader .

The rig I use for wacky is spooled with 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid.

I guess I'm the oddity but I use 8lb Suffix 832 straight no floro/mono leader.

Now totally sold on 6'6" ML Clarus rod (spinning) with 2000-2500 sized reel, YGK 10-14# yellow sinking braid, 8# mono leader for all my finesse applications including wacky.

20 lb Smackdown to 8 llb floro or mono leader. 832 in 10 lb is good line but I like Smackdown better

Frankly, my first choice as always would be 'straight braid'.

15-lb Sufix 832 (which doesn't float) offers an ideal descent rate with an unweighted Senko.

If a leader were warranted, I’d go with an 8-lb nylon leader.

A nice rod would be a 6’9” spinning rod (+– couple inches) Med power | Fast action

*+1 ... If you are around weeds or timber go up to #15 lb. braid and #10 lb. FC leader . While #20 lb. braaid is easy to use , I quickly found out it was over kill and hurt casting distance ... #10 lb. or #15 lb. braid is very strong (as long as you don't snap a hook set on slack line where the shock may break the line) .
