I agree with WRB on this one. If you can figure out what the fish are biting on, you really don't need that much stuff.

I bank fish as well and there's no way I could do that.

 

I bank fish like a boater - I'm constantly on the move like a boater working the trolling motor. If I'm in the Lowcountry hopping lagoons I can cover miles of ground. Even here in the Upstate I generally fish one place where I can walk the perimeter of the entire lake.

 

I tried using one baitcaster and one spinning rod but it turned out to be a pain. I would wedge one rod between my back and my backpack but it was not only uncomfortable I had to worry about overhanging tree branches. Now I just take a 7 ft MH baitcaster and it works great. I catch more than enough fish so I don't thing I'm losing anything by using an all purpose rod.

Years ago when bass tournaments first started in Florida, I drew a well known fisherman as my boater.   I was thrilled to fish with him.  When I walked up to his boat he saw the giant tackle box I was toting along with a huge armful of rods.  He said "Put a bag of black worms in your shirt pocket and you will be good to go."   He was right.  :>)

When I started kayak bass fishing four years ago I brought two rods.  I wondered why people needed more than that.  Now I have been bringing six the last two years and will be bringing eight the rest of the summer since the weeds are now thickening up and I need to frog and punch.  

 

“Why so many rods?”, I ask myself that question on every outing.

 

Before tournament angling (Pre-1967), two practices were very widespread:

1) The use of ‘one’ fishing outfit

2) The use of ‘snap-swivels’

Back then, I was complacent with one outfit, after all, I only caught one fish at a time.

Today of course, both practices are highly unusual. In sharp contrast,

I've been working hard during the last several years, trying to whittle the number of carry-on outfits

from 10 to 5. Talk about an onerous task.

I think you are dead on about snap swivels. Everybody used them 30-40 years ago. Even to attach Eagle Claw snelled hooks with nightcrawlers!

I grew up fishing snap swivels, a brilliant way for my dad to not have to retie for a little kid.

Two for me one to fish one for a tail dragger
