MK Ulterra problems.

I love my Ulterra, but now the auto deploy is starting to act up.

Hard to trust something when it doesn't  work 100% of the time.

The call is in to customer service, but an Ultrex may be in my future.

Any Ultrex owners regret their purchase?

Don't get me wrong I love th Ulterra, but having to jiggle it to prevent motor error" is a pain.

Thanks,

Al

I’m  an Ultrex owner with no regrets.hope they get you back running right.

I would be interested to know what you learn from Minnkota as my Ulterra does the same thing. I cleaned mine up and & greased it, but haven’t had a chance to see if this eliminated the problem. Have you done a reset yet?

I don't own an Ulterra, but I keep hearing more problems about them not functioning properly.  I'm sure the auto stow and deploy and all those moving parts to make it happen are playing a role.  The more parts, the more parts there are to break down.  Many years ago my Uncle had a Minn Kota Genesis which was the same kind of thing - and he always had that thing in the shop being repaired.

Bear in mind that the Ultrex is going to have a significantly larger foot pedal and a short cable/hybrid cord attached compared to the Ulterra.  Unless you have a recessed area for the foot pedal, it could get awkward.

I have not and this is the first I have heard of one???

Have you tried calling an authorized Minnkota repair shop? If this is a common problem, chances are they have dealt with it and can let you know what you're looking at, as far as repairs, costs. Good luck

I have a call in and am waiting for a tech to call me back...

While you are waiting for your call if you wish you can go to Minnkota’s website, support for the ulterra and it has a troubleshooting guide. Reset may have not been the correct word, it could be a restore to factory settings. Hope this helps and good luck, hope you get it fixed.

Getting a call from customer support on a Monday is similar to wishing you would win the lottery.

Could you update us on what you discovered from Minnkota support? I would like to know if it is something I could use to get my ulterra to deploy consistently. Thanks in advance.

I did a complete relube of everything and tightened the best ( Found on youtube) and it is running better than it did when new.  I have a back-up service appt with an authorized dealer for next week if needed.  Greasing the moving pins provided the biggest improvement.

Thanks for the update. Lubed mine up too and out of about 10 deployments it only failed to deploy once. Much improved from before the lube job.

I saw a guy on Sunday who launched his boat and spotlocked it away from the ramp like they do on the commercial while he parked the trailer. At least the water was 80* in case he had to swim out to retrieve the boat.

I do that when alone.  It is great.

Great unless you have the issues the others here have described...then have fun swimming!

Mine started having problems deploying......would only deploy like 3" inches and then stop. I had to turn it back on to push it back in to stow it.

Found out the problem was actually a bad boat breaker which was like a $7 piece.

I had to take it to a shop to get it looked at though.

Apparently you can test this on your own with the right tool/equipment.

Funny you say that as I found that all electrical pugs are slap not created equal.  Voltage fluctuations can create malfunctions. That said, mine is better than new with a 5 minute lube

I’ll take my chances rather than pull on the rope and contort my body all day long.
