I have 6 kids, son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, & 13 grandkids.

 

They all know for Father's Day, my birthday, & Christmas my present is all of em home!

I don’t have as many as you, but my answer to everyone when asked what I want is always the same.

I can relate.  My Dad is also 80 and he is in poor health.  It is really a struggle for him to launch his boat and he can only fish for a few hours.  I spent a couple days with him last week and was happy to get out with him for a few hours fishing.  You young fellas, fish your Dad as much as you can.   

Dad and I got out today for fathers day. My son was sick. Fishing was less than stellar. He cried at the ramp both loading and unloading. Didn't say much while we were on the water. 

I'm sorry. There's no getting over the loss of a parent. I've lost both. You gotta enjoy your dad while you have him. My dad stopped wanting to fish with me several years before he died. He didn't feel up to the hassle of launching the boat, etc. Odd, because it was he who got me started on this path. But I did get him to go to a pond that belongs to a family friend the fall before he died. He caught a couple bass and twisted up the line on my spinning combo. I offered to fix it, but he wanted to go sit on the tailgate and talk to his buddy. I'm really glad we had that day together because he passed completely unexpectedly the next spring.

It’s 2020. I had a relative die of Covid at 59. Another friend died from it at 42. Just found out my old boss from a few years back died, too, not Covid, but he was only 61. On top of that, I just found out my neighbor across the street, who was 101 years old also passed. If anything is going to say cherish anything—it’s 2020.

Sorry to hear. Yes, cherish those moments. I wish your dad well in this difficult transition.
