I know I know this has been done..beat to death even but I'm asking. I need a suggestion for a budget spinning rod for my girlfriend. Will primarily be used for ned and twister tail grubs. Budget $75 and down.

Little over that - Dobyn's Colt 7'0" ML/F (CL702SF)- $80 retail

Under that - Diawa Aird-X 6'6" ML/F (AIRX661MLFS) or 7'0" ML/F (AIRX701MLFS) - $55 retail

Berkley lightining rod. 6ft6in med.1pc

Daiwa Aird X is a nice rod for sure.

I have an aird x baitcaster I use as a frog rod and I love it...I will probably get her a spinning rod...can't really beat it for $55

I've got the 6'6" Aird-X M/F spinning - use that for wacky, jerkbaits, poppers. If I hadn't been able to get a Fury 702SF for $87 after discounts, I would have gone with the Aird-X ML

Thanks for the reply...I may end up going that route

Ditto on the Aird. Got one a couple of months ago in ML, paired it with a Daiwa Regal. That Aird has re-energized fishing my local, highly pressured bank spots with mainly dinks. It is so much more fun with that rod, partly because the ML makes catching dinks fun, but largely because the Aird is super sensitive for a rod in that price range and I can feel so many nibbles and light takes with it.

I dig my Dobyns Fury spinning rod in M, but I'll be preaching the Aird to anyone looking sub-$100 for a great spinning rod for a long time.

I just bought a Daiwa Procyon rod for a friend who's just starting out. I have to say I am impressed with that rod.

It has a crisp feel, and a really comfortable handle.

Aird X. I have 2 and bought my son one for his first "nice" rod and it's been great. It looks good too paired with the black and gold Revros.

Good to know about the Procyon - my wishlist has a replacement for my Avocet combo...Mitchell 308-Pro on a Procyon L/F

if you can find one in stock at Walmart ... Lew's Hank Parker Spinning Speed Stick Fishing Rod ... 39.96 with IM8 graphite ...

good fishing ...

That's the rod I got for my friend. It's a 6' 2 piece L action rod. I also held a 6'6" ML that was just as nice.

I've got the 7' L/F on my list.

Looks like Daiwa is issuing a new version of that series. Maybe the older models will be on sale soon.

Well, considering my buying is limited to around Yule - hope the sale holds for a while if they do. Tight budget, get a gift-check from the parents for Yule - that's when my buying happens.

What model would you suggest for ned rigs and grubs on an 1/8oz ballhead? I don't have them locally to feel there true power and action. I can only go based off the model I have which is a 7ft heavy casting so that doesn't tell me much.

For light baits like that - the 6'6" or 7'0" Medium-Light. I have the 6'6" Medium and it just seems a little 'heavy' to use for finesse or light jigs.

I'm leaning towards that 7ft medium light as I think this will help her in casting distance and also is more fun fighting them on it...plus it's a little more forgiving. Now I've gotta find somewhere reputable that has them in stock to order from.

I'm not overall a big fan of Fenwick rods these days but I am a fan of the lighter weight Fenwick Eagle spinning rods. Very nicely balanced, sensitive and very lively compared to many other budget rods..

Forgot all about fenwick ...I've got an old eagle I use for crappie and love it. Another decent option.

I ordered a Aird X on Amazon (had an Amazon gift card) on 07/01. Said it was due to arrive on 08/24. Still none in stock. I cancelled it and ordered a Daiwa Procyon PRCN661MXS instead. Looks like a nice rod. I have a Shimano Sienna to put on it.

Check out cabelas fish eagle line.    Fits your budget, good rods.   My son has 2 and likes them plenty.
