Different styles of bait

Featured Replies

Do you carry different styles of bait not different baits for example baits that dive 10 and baits that dive 15.  I’m talking about do you carry megabass because it does this action but you also carry a rouge because it has this action.

I'm not sure of what you are asking. I have many different brands of crank baits in my tackle box. Some of them are the exact same color but are designed to run at different depths. Which one I use depends on how deep the water is, what depth the fish are, and what color I think I need depending on how much visibility the water has.

I’m asking do you carry different baits of the same type like crankbaits do you carry strike king square bill for this application then you also carry a lucky craft square bill for this

Yes I do. I have crank baits in several different brands that will about run the same depth. There will be differences in color patterns, body shape, and action of the baits. I have a few baits just alike that some have rattles and some are silent.

Yes. and not only cranks. With cranks the big differences are silent vs. rattles and wide vs. tight wobble.  Even plastics of the same size can have less or more action, or a completely different action.

Oh yeah of course. I do it with lots of baits...cranks, spinnerbaits, weightless stickbaits, poppers...all types of things really

I do but I don't go too crazy. I've done it long enough now that I've found the baits I like and tend to stick to them.

I suspect that brand and slight variation within lure category and terminal tackle is the norm for most fisherman here on BR, and the bait industry is thankful for it.

There is a difference between OWNING a bunch of similar baits and USING a bunch of similar baits.  For instance, I own way over a hundred jerk baits, but I generally use a half a dozen ( color depends on water clarity) Lucky Craft Pointers.

The rest of the jerk baits are just to have them.   I pull them out and look at and admire them from time to time.

Just don’t know how much it truly matters from a strike king jerk bait to a megabass jerkbait

Sometimes the smallest things can make all the difference in the world. As an example, with lipless crankbaits there are times that bass will only take one brand and ignore all others for some reason be it the sound, action, or something else entirely.

One isnt necessarily better than the other (components may be better and it may last longer), they simply have different situations in which they perform better.

Absolutely.  I carry different jerkbaits that have different actions and dive to different depths. I carry several different cranks for the difference in action and diving depths. Sometimes the fish are super aggressive and will munch about anything.  Other times something as simple as a color or the length of a pause will make the difference in a good day and a horrible one. Everything I carry has earned its place in my boat with results.  I dont carry anything because kvd says they're the deal. I try new stuff and sometimes it earns a spot, others it gets tossed in the tote with all the extra gear

I agree to an extent.  Ive seen days tho that they would murder a megabass and wouldn't touch a strike king. Also had days they'd eat a rogue and didn't want the megabass.  I waited years to try a vision but now I'm a firm believer they're the best jerkbait made. Have caught a lot on the rick clunns too before they changed em up, when they were a vision knockoff
