Daiwa frog reel

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a new frog reel around 100 bucks. Are the Tatula CT or Tatula 100 a good choice? Any recommendations? Will be paired with 7'4" H St Croix Mojo Bass

I have both the Tatula CT or Fuego CT. I tried the Tatula 100 but I just didn't like the fell in my hands, which is just my personal opinion.  Mainly just difference between the Tatula CT that it has the T-Wing. I like both reels so I don't think you'll go wrong with either. Price wise they are very similar, but search around and sometimes you can find them on sale.

The Abu Garcia Revo x can be had under 100..  have used it as a frog reel and it worked very well.. smooth and did a really good job launching . It is the only budget reel I have and am still very happy with it.. it just serves a different purpose now.

They will work fine but won't have the smoothness and refinement your Alphas CT 70 has so don't expect that.  They are workhorse reels but not exactly "nice".

I like having the nicer reels for throwing plastics as that's what I do most of the time. I get it done workhorse reel is kinda what I'm after. I appreciate the help

Thanks for the help!

Do you fish from shore. Are long casts a priority? Does the reel have to be a Daiwa or a Tatula?

So take a chance on a Quantum ICON PT. They've been replaced by the Vapor PT and can be found at blowout prices between $45-50$ on amazon. They're very solid in feel and operation and are true bomb casters. Not just good, but excellent distance. My Tat or Fuego can't come close. The Fuego was my primary frogging reel for some time, so I have a grip on what it's capabilities are. I have a 7 spd ICON on my frog rod. I fish heavy pads and snaggy spots a lot and the gear train is still smooth as when new. I've been cranking my lighter wakebaits, up to 2 ozs, all summer on a 6 spd ICON with similar results. I'd have zero complaints at twice what I paid, or more.

Used my Fuego reel a couple times froggin, it worked just fine with 50 lb braid. Casting distance was good, I have no complaints re: that reel.

You can get the LH 7.0 (HPT) and the RH 6.3 (SPT) for $39.99 with free shipping from Amazon.  ($42.39 for me with tax.)  The LH says Zebco and shows a light lavender colored reel in the ad...but it is the same color as the other Icons and comes in the same Quantum box.  I know you are aware of it, but for those that don't know Zebco owns Quantum.

Unfortunately...mostly due to health problems of both my wife and I...my Icons haven't been used yet.  :sad78:  And, yes, I picked up the one showing a lavender color to see if it was different than my Quantum Icon.  Naturally it's not.  I think my feminine side would have liked the lavender colored reel.

I use a 7’4” H mojo for frogs. Had a Fuego CT on it with 65lb braid and it worked awesome. I like the Daiwa braking profile but the ergonomics are not my favorite. The reels are well made, I definitely recommend them if they “fit” you. I have a Curado K on this year and the ergonomics are better for me, but I sometimes miss the Daiwa braking.

I have a Fuego CT on a H/F rod which I use for flip/pitch and frogs. Good distance, great breaking. Really the only difference between this and a Tatula CT is the T-Wing - otherwise they're identical.

I use a Tatula 100 8.1:1 for frogging. Launches a frog and has been great for me.

Was looking into that one, I went with the new Tatula CT with the blue accents 8.1:1
